What imac can play FTB beyond ?

Hello,

I have a 10 year old Imac that works well however I cannot play the new ftb beyond game on it. I would love to keep playing but not spend a lot of money on a 'new' imac.
Which imac should I buy to play the game?

ps; I rather stay with apple than switch to a windows/linux pc. too old to want to learn a new system

What is important is that the computer has *at least* 8 GB of RAM, (though 16 GB is better) and the CPU has a clock-speed above 3 GHz.
You can take a look at the information available in this little database: MacTracker, to find something to your liking. As far as I can tell, there are a few imacs from the 2011 and 2012 era that qualify, and most of the imacs past 2013 do as well. Basically, the closer to what is current, the better.

Alternatively, if you are the more adventurous type, like me, you can try out the hackintosh route. :D
 
Thank you for your reply, I have been looking at Imacs and came to the same conclusion. I have money for a cheap second hand one so I will try and get the most ram for my money.
I would love to build a hack one day but have no time at the moment to give that a try.

Some of the Intel based Macs are just as upgradable as PCs are, if you DO NOT buy the parts from Apple... If you do you will get considerably fewer parts :D

I saw a Mac upgrade video of such an upgrade with a cost comparison between Apple prices vs generic prices. He referred to the iMac as a "Trashcan" because of it's cylindrical shape and it was a 2011-12 or thereabouts model. He added ram, replaced the CPU and updated to a modern video card, and it was almost as easy as updating a pc.

I couldn't find the video I saw but there are plenty of them on YouTube for different models... See if there's something there for your current system as it's usually cheaper to do a hardware upgrade than buy a new system.
 
Thanks for your answer and I appreciate your suggestion. I have in the past upgraded this mac with a bigger and faster hdd and would not hesitate to upgrade again but unfortunately my mac can not hold more than 4gb ram and the processor upgrade is beyond my abilities.
