What happens when you update?

What happens if that mod pack for example FTB Unleashed releases a new update would that reset the world and you need to start again?
I apologise if this is a noob question, quite new to the FTB world haha.

Er, didn't you just answer the question yourself? If you choose to install such an update, then you typically need to start again.
 
It depends. Always check here before updating a modpack to a newer version to see if there's world-breaking between versions. And always make a world backup anyway.
