Good morning everyone, a newb here seeking your advice into this whole "MC with mods" gameplay... Beware, lot's of rambling ahead.

I have very little experience with mods, I messed with IC2, BC and Forestry a couple of months ago, played for some time but got bored to be honest, I didn't know what to do. Went back to Vanilla but I definitely wanted to check FTB, I mean all these mods working in unison with each other...

So here I am, trying to figure out what I'm aiming at, in the long run. I'm not the kind of guy that likes electronics, I won't build some crazy system with redstone and pistons, gates and "blarghzons" that does some crazy stuff. I think Magic World is more suitable for me, that's why I started playing with it.

I watch all those guys on Youtube, making videos and showing stuff in SSP and I'm kind of let's say "jealous" because even if they don't know what they're doing, they have some purpose you know? Some linear progression that takes them from the beginning to the end-game (still don't understand what exactly that means).

Sure, I can make a base with Magma Crucibles and Magmatic Engines, I can make farms and some basic sorting system, I can work towards acquiring a specific item or sth but how do I go from "here" to "over there"?

I do not have much of an imagination to begin with, so I cannot think of crazy stuff to do by myself, I would really like to have some sort of goal though.

If you managed to read till here, I would really appreciate a couple of words from you, many people here seem to be really experienced and I'd like to have a comment or two on this.

What do you do in normal unmodded MC? One of the mods will expand on that but since I have no clue what you did I can't point you in any direction.

Hey there, thanks for the response. To be honest last night I kind of fixated on building machines, whereas I have the Magic mod pack and alters the gameplay quite a bit :) I have Thaumcraft, Twilight Forest... whole bunch of stuff to explore, definitely won't run out of things easily :) And let's not forget the bosses, I haven't encountered them in Vanilla but I'm so doing it here!

Anyway, in Vanilla I usually build and explore, for example in my current map I've built a Viking village and started on expanding a nearby MC village. I dug a huge mine and was about to build a mountain fortress... Pretty vague description but that's it to be honest, I don't play MC everyday so I don't have MC thoughts running around in my mind :)

Well there is quite a few things that can help with building but with exploring, aka weapons and armour, then you would need to progress pretty far down the tech trees but that would be for FTB not Magic Pack. But looking at the magic pack mod list these could help with you building

Filler: This can be used to clear land and build basic things. Something you could have it do is hollow out a massive cave basement in your fortress or have it building one wall or even an entire floor as you are making another.

Builder: As a start think think of this as an advance filler but it scans and saves an area allowing you to make a copy of it somewhere else.

And these are things that could support you in resource collection/making in. Also as long as you connect pipes, chests or other machines to the correct side, red and orange output, blue input. Then they will automaticly pump items out and into the pipe, chest, machine.

Igneous Extruder: Basically an automatic cobble generator so you don’t need to work one yourself. You might need more then one of these.

Powered Furnace: Don’t want cobble? Auto smelt it into smooth stone. As a bonus you can also smelt any ores you find using this.

Pulverizer: I am not sure but I believe this can turn cobble into sand as a bonus you can use it to double any ores you find.

Sawmill: Gives you two extra planks per log and also allows you to uncraft wooden based object and get their resources back, not sure how will it works with wooden mod items. Also you get sawdust and 8 of them can be turned into a sawdust ball thing which can be cooked into charcoal.

But blarghzons are the bestzons! I have a machine that outputs 10 million megablarghzons per bleck!

More seriously though, you should probably read through the wikis for some of the major mods like IndustrialCraft, Buildcraft, Forestry, and RedPower and see if anything there jumps out as being awesome. A lot of the machines are mostly there to help you gather large amounts of resources so you can make bigger and bigger things.

Since you said you're building a viking village and mountain fortress, it sounds like you would need lots of wood and stone for that rustic look; maybe build some forestry tree farms or an infinite stone brick generator (cobble -> stone -> stone brick). You could use builders and a blueprint for a tower so you can make multiple copies of that tower on your fortress without placing each block manually.

WHAT?!?!?! I can do those things with Fillers and Builders? Oh it's on guys, it's so on! I had previously lightly scanned the BC wiki but the Filler and Builder looked intimidating :p

Underground forests anyone? Or deserts? Or BDSM clubs.... uuuum... huh? xD

Yeah you're right, once I set up a proper MJ room I can start looking into other mods as well, I really want to mess with that "metro tunnel digger" what's-its-name from RailCraft...

Also, I'm thinking of using different engines on different tasks, lava for my main base, fuel for my quarries, bio-seed-oil for my farms... All of these will be fun to set up :)

Yes, I'm very eager to start a fresh world once the full packs release and even though I'll probably play with Magic World again, you've given me some great ideas and I thank you for it. Much appreciation gentlemen...
