I recently started playing the FTB Unleashed pack, but when I got a new computer, the world got wiped (Didn't think to transfer the world save before I reformatted the hard drive to sell my old computer), and I have totally no clue what I'm doing. I know it seems bad, but I have been playing for about 7 hours, and I have a decent size smeltery, a manyullyn pick with auto regen 3 and a bit of luck, and a tiny house. And a small nether blaze spawner (By the way, added dimensional doors to it, as I am really used to it for the quick travel). So I'm curious what I should do next. I haven't started up any machines, but I have the stuff to make a quarry, so I'm going to be putting together a nether lava pump with ender chests with liquid transporer and... stuff... to stirling engines or geothermal generators to power the quarry, which will be nice. Any suggestions for something else I can do in the early game stage?

What I do is I try to find an obscure corner in a server, and get wrenches + diamond pickaxe as quickly as possible. Then, I go into the nether, and use that as a quick express way to other people's bases (because they ALWAYS put the nether portal next to their base). Then, at night when no one is around, I emerge and just start messin' with stuff. First, I like to use the wrench on all of their machines and make it so random pipes aren't connected, and the machines will be facing the wrong way for some reason. Then, I like to go into people's chests, but I don't take anything. I just re-order all of their stuff, stashing random things into random chests. Then, I jump on at least one block of farm land, and cause it to revert back to normal dirt. Then, I'll remove a few torches in the corner of the house, so when they log in, monsters will keep coming out of nowhere for some reason. I also like to grab tools and use up a bunch of their durability by placing and breaking the same blocks over again, but I always put the tools back.

My greatest savagery comes from when I destroy someone's bed, then put it back down again. Then, when they die, they'll respawn in the middle of nowhere. It is only then that they'll know the true fury of the server gremlin.

j/k. On a serious note, what I do usually isn't anything special. I make a hole in the ground (usually where I spawned), try to procure some food and stuffs, explore a few caverns to build up enough equipment, then I'll go off to try and make a build somewhere. It could be a gigantic pirate ship. It could be a hanging castle. It could be a pyramid with a stupid looking dragon/alligator head for an entrance. Who knows what will take my fancy when I play next time.

What I like to do is pick a mod that I'll specialize in, and try to use that mod as much as possible. It usually ends up being thaumcraft. Until I get to that point, I play the game mostly like vanilla minecraft. I'll try to get some very basic machines up to double ore production, and usually that is a TiC smeltery.

So my advice would be to pick out a mod, and roll with it. The more obscure and unknown, the better. Try to use mods that you aren't familiar with, that way each play-through seems like something new.

You might consider bees. Sooner or later you'll want them for something, so the earlier you get a foothold in them the better.

Securing food source, get a stockpile of wood, dig a hovel of shame. Then stuffs once basics are covered.

Typically, I start looking at things that I haven't before, and looking at what I have around me. I'll usually hunt for a pre-built structure (used AM1 towers, villages, redwoods, desert temples, etc.) for the first bit, otherwise, I might find a cave, or, if actually needed, I might even build a house.

In my new start in Monster, I wandered out, and found a desert village (with nothing particularly useful) and a Roguelike Dungoens tower. I messed around with horses for a while, wandered a little further, and found the colorful forest things. Grabbed a few choice trees (namely white, brown, blue, black and green) which I was planning on automating, until I realised that the MFR farm needed invar.

Mined/caved for a bit, and found each of the shards, so went on a Thaumcraft hunt, and might do that as the "first" tree to explore.

punch a tree, find a place i would like to live in, gather food and then mine.
This game costs resources no matter what, so i always start mining somewhere :)
Then i decide what mod i would like to jump into, or if i want to start building a real base(i usually live in a shack by now)
Then randomness decides ;)

My previous world?
I wanted to explore the IC2 changes so went into making a base and setting up farms and created a IC2 production line. Though I never got far into it, my hope was to use 2 of the Second Largest multifarms of Apple Oak trees to power 2 Steam Boilers, a Solid which powered my Quarry and the farms and a liquid powered via Ethanol which would power my base. Providing mainly RF & IC2 power since RF is storage enabled and can be converted into MJ via a conduit. I had a world ending problem though, after the TE pipes becoming invisible issue I tried to solve it and trying to solve it my world up and vanished from the world select screen. The world save was in my folder, but I could not select it at all.

My next world that I hope to start soon?
I plan to add in Blood Magic to the DW20 pack, alongside someother mods (mainly the most recent AM2 update and Nether Ores). So I plan to see how I can work Blood Magic into my builds.

Food, Shelter, Wood, Mine. After that, smeltery, Thaumometer, TE machines. After that, Blaze Rods, Massive source of lava. From there on it's pretty much whatever you want to build. I usually start by make farms for food and the different wood types. Then sorting, and processing. From here it's anything to make traveling faster and safer.
