What are the track supports that etho used?

at 17:55 approximately you can see black and rust colored supports under the track. What are these and how do I get them?

theyre not metal posts. Theyre wooden posts, made from wooden ties.

Yes, but I think at one point he may have changed to use metal post.
Personally I like the metal better.

There are wooden, metal, and stone posts. The metal ones can be dyed any of the 16 colors. Look in NEI for recipes for all of them.

Maybe an interesting tip, mobs can't spawn on any of the posts, not even when they have tracks on them.
