I'm starting to get into FTB..again. I've tried over and over but wind up getting overwhelmed with all the content. I never know what to build after getting setup with TC, and getting a few TE items. (pulverizer, Furnace. The essentials)

What are some early game things you normally build when you start a new world? My main goal is to learn some sort of automation, but I know that takes time to get to.

to expand on rdemay91...
- I used dw20 in 1.7 to get into ender IO... autoprocessing + redpower2'ish barrel sorting system/bulk storage
- Secured and/or diverse farming setup (food, building materials, etc) with MFR or TC4 (latter early-midgame'ish)
- secure power + automining (nether lava, Big Reactors, Tree Farm as simple solutions)
- mob farms (vanilla mob farm + turtle/MFR grinder = low tech solution, before power allows ender IO or MFR spawners)
- Speed/Armor/Power Up (Botania, Powersuits, Dark Armor, etc, whatever suits your style)

For me I always get my food supplies settled.

Followed by branch mining to get the bare necessity for starting a tree farm and charcoal-fed power infrastructure.

Once I have that, a basic ore processing line.

From there, I'll most likely do what I need to do to get unlimited resource. E.g. MFR Laser Drill, Forestry Bees etc.

1.7? Depends. Do you like automatic mining? If so, start looking for diamonds for either type of quarry.

If you like manual mining, take some jabba barrels with you when you go, and set them at the entrance to your branch mine. Then you can come back and empty your inventory/backpacks into those and carry them home with dolly's at the end of the 'day'.

Mostly it just depends on what mod you want to play with the most. I like playing with Tinkers and TE. So I set up my smeltery, then process my pulverized ores in the smeltery. I even set up a Steve's Factory Manager system to ensure that I only got pure metals out of the smeltery, unless the stuff was specifically in the alloy chest.

Ender pearl farm. Theres a million ways to do it but you wont get far without it. After that, flight and as near to invincible I can become.

Most of my early stuff is mainly vanilla and almost always manual. I make sure I have a farm for all the basic crops and animals. I find I can do quite well once that is set up. Most of the basic setups for things only require a few of all the different resources. The manual farms can carry you quite some time while you get all the automation set up.

I good starting setup with thaumcraft is to set yourself up with a charcoal and xp farm. Chop, gather and use golems for the tree farm, with an infernal furnace and a couple of brain in a jars to collect the xp. The charcoal and xp can fuel your endeavors in other mods.
