I guess that role in question is the judge that decides if you die or not if you do not vote.
It has no power to do so if you keep a regular daily voting habit.

Doesn't the new resistance roles contradict themselves? If the assassin dies, the New Resistance cannot attack. Yet the other person chooses who dies if the Assassin is dead...

I think it means that if the assassin dies, the resistance doesn't get an attack that night. The second in command takes over this capability the next night. His role would still be "second in command" but he gets the last word on who the resistance kills.
