Because surely, you're jesting, right? Nobody just blurts their role out like that if they can help it; not until it's pretty much certain they're dead, at least.

I'm new, and have no idea what what jesting is. And I think it's pretty clear that I'm almost dead.
Clear? No... one can always fool around with others and draw the attention away from oneself. This is a game of lie and deception. Surviving often depends on how skillful (or, ugh, lucky) you are.
There is a role in a couple of the werewolf games called a "jester". They are on no team but are considered neutral. If they are lynched, they win. If they are wolf killed, don't die or killed in any other fashion that is not lynching, they lose. A side effect however is that when the jester is lynched they choose to kill someone the next day. However, they can only choose someone who voted to lynch the jester. This is why some people claim they are a wolf if they are a jester, then people will vote to lynch them and they win. However, a lot of people are skeptical when someone claims a wolf since that is the most common jester strategy and may end up killing anyone who votes.
However there are no jesters in this game (since it wasn't in the roles) so that is out of the possibility

what a waste, I just finished trying to convince the spy that squid is a wolf because he claimed bachman (which would make 3 bachmans by my count)
