Bees aren't replaceable, if for no other reason than they're more exciting than watching crops grow. Not saying breeding cultivated bees is exciting, but the ones with creeper, ghastly, etc. can be pretty exciting.
 
Bees are far too limited in terms of expansion for my taste. Crops are also much more hands on to breed properly.

Although crops are much easier to automate now ;D

It'd be cool for Forestry or extrabees to add these in the form of an addon to frames to make expansion easier. They would need to be expensive and require some resource only obtainable from a mid to late tier bee, but it beats exploring for days and days to gather a bunch of raw bee stock.

To each his own. Last couple of days I've been doing both. (Though admittedly I'm still a crop noob.) That's what's great about this game, and why I SSP mostly, you can do whatever you want!

Only bad part about crops is the crossbreeding is less likely than bees but the upside is being able to do it on a MUCH larger scale.
 
Are you able to plant IC2 crops /w the MFR Planter as well? I'm not very knowledgeable on how IC2 crops work, so do they need to be replanted once harvested or.... Oh, and last question, are you able to harvest them with MFR in 1.4.7 or 1.5+?

They don't need to be replanted at all ;) Just harvested; 1.4.7 and beyond.

my argument isn't that crops replace bees, it's that bees don't replace crops. There is room for both
