Hey guys, I wanted to start my formal bee lab and was wondering about a few things pertaining to cherry trees/wood. I know they used to crash the client/server for some reason back in FTB-Beta-A, so if they still do that, let me know please and ill find an alternative to what wood I want to use.

That aside, a friend of mine found a cherry sapling in a dungeon chest, but that was his only exposure to cherry trees. I have found some lime saplings to the same avail, so I'm assuming I have to either find them by caving or this tree breeding thing I heard about somewhere.

Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yep you got it upto the last update you could only find in DG chests, now I cant say if this has changed yet as I have not had lot of time to go DG explore, you can start breeding as soon as you have just one tree, cross breed with all the common trees, you will find interesting results.

Afaik the saplings have been removed from dungeon loot tables and the only way to get them is via breeding, stick a bunch of vanilla trees of all types (I used all of them for the first cross only) set up an apiary or 2 (or 7 :D)under the trees (don't forget to make sure of clear los to the sky unless you have bred in cave dweller, any bees work the trait that controls the speed however is pollination) and wait for a good long while. It took I vaguely recall a few hours real time to get a reasonable amount of changed leaves (they do show up quite well) and remember to use the grafter to break the leaves otherwise the sapling drop rate is I believe as per vanilla droprates. It took a couple of crosses (chopping down all the trees after I felt I had enough saplings for the next cross) to get something interesting (in my case walnuts for seed oil) the second cross was cherry\oak\spruce and from that I got a few different species, the third cross was one of the species I bred and cherry again so and the fourth is still running atm with only a couple of later species I bred. Any of the trees that are Girth 2x2 or greater can be grown from saplings which are not identical in their genome so don't worry about that. Oh yeah also make a Treealyser and have a good supply of Honey Drops to check what your saplings are. Some of this information is doubtlessly incorrect but it is what I did to get a few different species.
