I'm not too bad with designing bases with functionality in mind, but I'm terrible at aesthetics. Any good modular, space-y designs for a void age? I haven't really started building it yet, and all I have so far is a lame 9x9x9 made of Bordered Quartz, Chiseled Glowstone, and Thickened Glass.

There are all kinds of answers to this one. Base design has a multitude of threads dedicated to it. You could create model of a starship for the void. One based off of the flying castle from "Castle in the Sky". I would start with going through the Community Showcase and look at the base design thread. There is also a separate one for AS.

Shoop has thread on aesthetics just building with the basic 9x9.

Start with those. You should get plenty of ideas from them.

Edit: Stay away from E.R.A.M. Corporation though. That guy is crazy. ;)

Well it has been a bit since my last void base, but what I would always do is build the base how I need it to be, and once that was done then I would normally make it look like some kind of spaceship from Star trek/wars. So get what you need then make it what you want. :D

Building floating islands is a common theme for void worlds. For my current AgS world I plan to eventually build a VERY large floating island platform which I can build a castle on. Make it a more mythical(Floating) version of the castle from "Gargoyles" the old tv show.

I should mention that I'm going for a modular base so I can expand it easily, and a sort of connected-space-pod look, like biospheres but without the "bio" part

Circular platforms work really well then. Elevators for up and down transportation. Enclose the walkways from platform to platform to give it that space station feel.

After putting in far too much work into a couple of aborted attempts, I finally had to stop & sit down with pen & paper to come up with a workable floor plan. This is still a work in progress, but you can see the basic layout. I'm thinking about adding smaller spheres at the cardinal points (off the large rooms) to complete a diamond shape. The spheres are 24x24x24 by the open blocks builders guide (yay for special features in creative!), the stone brick platforms you see are: corridors = 7 wide; small rooms = 13 square; large rooms = 33 square. I will post a video tour when it is complete. Floors & ceilings are in, but only 1/4 of the walls, & then there are a lot of finishing touches & moving in equipment.
