Villager Dissappearances

hello, as you can see by the title, villagers have been dissappearing, i have been playing the direwolf20 1.5 pack, i live in a desert village, with 2 tinkers houses, a sludge pool (they dont harm villagers), a blacksmith and a beekeeper
when i set up a breeder so i could set up another peaceful table, all villagers other than the beekeeper dissapeared, i dont know how, there is no evidence of a suicide pact, and all cactuses in the area were cut down for tinkers
(also tinkers construct isnt letting me make tools)
if you have any advice, please let me know, my villagers are very important to me, and i need them back!
Scenario scale
1(best case): they wandered into my mine and got lost
10(worst case): herobrine based suicide pact

Zombies probably got 'em.
And the reason you cannot make tools (metal, I assume) is because you need to cast them in the smeltery now.

taco, i only play on peaceful, and thanks for the help with the tools, i'll get right on making a smeltery (if it lets me)

Villagers stupidly move to low points in the area from my experience. I'd search your mines first. Also never let villagers roam freely. Lock them up immediately if you want to keep them.

Having MFR to spawn them simplifies things substantially

It's possible that they all despawned, or maybe you made some modifications to the villager's houses, making them invalid and halting the breeding of villagers.

Who says you need to fence them in, and who says you need to use MFR to spawn them?

I see a great combination to form a punishment for villagers who roam outside of their set boundaries. Soylent Green, anyone?

update: i found a skeleton dungeon containing 2 wierd items, it strays my mind towards Scenario 10: i found music disc 13 (the cracked one) and a piece of smooth stone (?)

update: beekeeper fell of blacksmith building, and died, looked like he was punched off, im edging closer to worst case scenario

here is a general description of my cave system, and a little wierd thing about the stone
my cave/mine is a large cave system with 1 zombie dungeon (i play on peaceful and it has caused no problems) and it is largely unexplored
the unexplored section is a pitfall, leading to more caves.
the little piece of stone i got in the dungeon strangely doesnt like to be shift clicked, it also cannot be used in recipes

You can turn on NEI Tooltips, and anything you point your cursor at, the name popups in a box on the top of your screen. When you hit "E" (or go into your inventory), there should be a button labeled "Options" I believe, on the lower right of your screen, it's one of the buttons in there.

I've been finding blocks of stone like that in chests and Dartcraft loot bags as well, it's always a single block of stone, can't be shift clicked, and trying to place it in the world just causes it to vanish, wonder which mod is causing them to show up in the loot lists, some block or item that's been configured wrong is my guess but no idea what.

the stone actually connot be stacked either, it acts like a duped item, when it is stacked, the alternate stone dissapears, we need a nickname for the spooky stone...
