Very confused with the new launcher

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

Alright, I have not used Feed The Beast in a long time, and today opening the launcher made a window pop up saying I needed the new app.
After downloading and installing the new app, I am lost.

I have multiple versions of Java installed, 12, 11, 9 and 8 for development. In the old launcher I could set the java executable, memory and other options in the settings. But I cannot find an option in the new launcher to set the Java executable... I tried installing a modpack anyway because I figured most would support Java 12 by now but it just opens a vanilla launcher asking for login even though I am logged into the vanilla launcher already.
I also can't find the profile manager to create a new profile and log in.

Am I missing some components of the launcher? Should I try and reinstall?

System: Linux Mint 19.3
Java versions: 12, 11, 9, 8
Kernel: 5.3

Only java 8 is supported.

The FTB app leverages its own instance of the vanilla launcher to actually start the mod packs using the profiles in the Vanilla launcher, that's why you get the prompt for login.

Alright, is there a way I can tell the new launcher to use Java 8 like I could with the old launcher?
