Version 1.4.7 vs 1.4.2, what FTB?

Evening,
Tonight I tried to build my self a server, and I got pretty far. When I tried to login to the server I noticed a 1.4.2 on the right hand side with a x over the bars. So I assume its a compatibablity issue with versions cause the version of MC i have is 1.4.7 . Sowith all the diffrent distros that FTB presents, what should I use? I have looked and mindcrack and the prices/recipe for some items just seem insane, such as the quarry. What the diffrences in the distros?

I have actually found lot of my answers here at http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Feed_The_Beast_Wiki. What mod pack does the normal single player use? I do know it doesnt use emc, but the quarries use only a diamon pick axe.
