i'm pretty sure lamps are solid i.e. you can't move trough them, so using them during mining might be somewhat unpractical.

the other stuff i dig though :)
I said cave mining not branching. Also I use hammers for branch mining so I'd have clearance

Yeah, just stick them on the roof.

yeah on the cave's roof which may be quite high...

i prefer just to place them down on the floor in all scenarios when i just need light, so for me lamps would be rather an inconvenience.

Thaumcraft essentia: potentia to fuel the thaumostatic harness (flight), ignis to speed up the infernal furnace, lux (from torches) to light up tunnels while mining with the arcane bore. Thermal expansion steam dynamos (I'm using these with a railcraft liquid fueled boiler, but have water & charcoal fed into them as back up if I run out of fuel). My ME system is set to keep an enderchest full of charcoal & an enderchest full of torches. If you really have that much excess you could always set up an auto smelting system with a wall of vanilla furnaces. I should set up an enderpouch matched to the torch chest for when I go caving...

You can burn and put the power into a Mining Drill from MFR. That's my best idea for spare power.

What are you using to farm the charcoal? It's probably better to shut it off instead of wasting it. If it's Steve's Carts, a redstone signal to an Advanced Detector Rail will hold it and stop it from moving. MFR will also turn off with redstone and there's a redstone control block for Forestry farms. I know there's a block for Rotarycraft that'll accept a signal to stop transferring power.

How are you processing the charcoal? Maybe switch to a slower method, like a Coke Oven instead of a high speed method.

After a while you'll probably still end up with too much coal coke. At least you'll have lots of creosote.

1. install ichun's torched mod
2. make torch rockets
3. make torch rocket launcher
4. light up a mod infested cave
5. celebrate victory over darkness with a torch rocket with 20 stacks of torches inside
6. goto line 2
4) give the turtle torches and have it light up the whole deep dark

Light up all the deep dark you can see from your spawn point in the deep dark using torch rockets.

From watching DW20 videos, he noted that light level does not effect spawning. You pretty much need to use the magnum torch or the chandelier from extra utils in the deep dark. These stop spawns in a larger area despite their light levels being on par with torches. The magnum torch actually reaches out to 128 blocks. I use them all the time now in creative worlds to stop annoying spawns. Slightly off topic, they are also great for putting in the middle of a shaft mining operations so you dont need to be so anal with torch placement. Little expensive though.

in the deep dark you take damage from being in the dark too long so lighting up the whole deep dark can be useful
