Greetings, all!

My friends and I are using FTB Infinity (FTBI) 1.6.2 and I'd like to update us to the latest mod pack and add the latest Ars Magica and Galacticraft. I love space and magic and look forward to zapping aliens with spells!

We've been playing on this server over a month now and would like to keep our progress. What should we know about proceeding before we proceed?

These are specific topics of concern, though all relevant advice is welcome!

-How do we back up our JourneyMap waypoints besides manually transcribing them onto paper or into another digital document?

-How do we back up our server completely just in case? Where are all the files on a Windows 7 machine?

-If we want to restore our old server after installing the latest FTBI and new mods (Galacicraft and Ars Magicka in this case), what should we do?

-If we want to restore our old client after this change, what should we do?

-Are there any conflicts in mods we should expect between FTBI 1.6.2 and Galacticraft? What about Ars Magicka 2?

-I've heard that Biomes o'Plenty can generate odd biomes with other mods installed due to conflicting biome IDs. I doubt our server uses the expanded biomes (though we do have an Enchanted Forest near our base, which seems new), but we definitely have the new plants and creatures due to Biomes o'Plenty. Can we generate odd/invalid biomes due to adding Galacticraft and Ars Magicka 2 in after world generation?

-Are there any other very spiffy mods we should install while we're at it?

-Anything else relevant you wish to share?

Its difficult in 1.6 since the Automatic id assigning is a 1.7 Feature so adding that mods may require Manual id fixing no way around that
And the way points are Saved to your Client i guess so as long as you Dont reinstall It completely you should be fine
But definitely make a Backup of the map and every config you Edit before Start to work on It

Galacticraft always causes id conflicts
And neither of those mods add biomes so nothing should happen There

- When you update mod packs through versions, your journeymap waypoints, generally, don't get removed. However, you could always back up your journeymap folder before updating, just to make sure.
- Backup server completely? If you are running the server on your PC, there will be a load of new folders in the folder you put the launch file, which include mods/configs/scripts. Just copy them to a different folder, and viola, backup!
- Restoring after adding new mods? You can go from a world backup (done manually) or remove the mods, and hope not too much breaks. Usually stuff doesn't break, but it could.
- Restore old client? Remove the mods/downgrade (though that shouldn't be needed)
- After generating the config for galacticraft, you will want to check the dimension IDs/Biome IDs with Biomes O' Plenty, Extra Utilities, Twilight Forest, and any other mod (except RFTools and Mystcraft, as they are special) which add dimensions.
- When adding Galacticraft you will need Micdoodlecore, as that is needed for Galacticraft to run
- If you aren't sure whether something will work or not, best bet is to test in singleplayer, before applying to servers. So just go into creative mode, get a creative space ship, fly to the moon/planets, make sure everything is as it should be.

Ars Magica used to add a biome that was a forest of Ars Magica trees (it was rather pretty one, too, until they changed the trees), but I don't know if it still does.

Is it Witchwood? It's been a while since I've played with Ars Magica.

There is a reason why Galacicraft is not in the pack, and why Reasonate Rise removed it recently despite having pretty much every mod in existence. It doesn't play well, you will have unfixable bugs, perhaps world breaking bugs. So honestly if you have to ask, best not even bother because even the people that know what they are doing can't get it to play flawlessly.

Ars Magica is dead. It doesn't exist for 1.7.10, so I dunno why you'd want to invest all that time learning a mod that won't be there the next time you play on a up to date pack.

If you really want more to do, wipe the world and play on FTB Infinity 1.7.10. So many of the mods got way better. I'll never understand why people stay on old worlds, especially when 1.7.10 has been out for over a year now.

FTB Infinity is always on 1.7.10, I think the OP meant pack version 1.6.2, which doesn't need to be wiped.

But as you said with the mods, Ars Magica is dead, however, some people have issues with GC while others seem to always play it flawlessly

I last played GC back in 1.5 days, when it wouldn't recognise most power connections, mars wasn't even a thing and half the mod was WIP.

I assume it's a lot better now but i'm nothing if not cynical
