Mac updating to java 7

Chrome isn't compatible with java 7, if I update to java 7 for the 1.6.4 modpacks, will it render chrome unusable?

good point. I really have no idea what I am doing. I was under the impression from this link that is was incompatible. I suppose it would have been helpful to include that I am on a Mac. besides, I am on 10.6.8 and cannot load java 7 anyway, as java 7 seems only to be compatible with 10.7 or higher, and I lack the kung fu to do much about that without upgrading the OS, which I have been trying to avoid. Unless you know some shit that I haven't found (which is very possible), I may be screwed.

What do you use Java in the browser for? Unless you need it, it just opens an extra path for viruses into your computer through your web browser. Most users do not need it to work with their browser.
