I have a custom infinity evolved pack. I want to update to the latest build but last time I tried a lot of the extra mods got messed up. Is it easier to update normally and fix the messed up mods or just update everything manually.
My general rule is to use some type of update log I keep with the server. In it I track what mods I've added or disabled from a pack and what config changes I have made. When it comes to update I do the following:
Download the server pack to my PC. I then rename the directories by adding the pack version number. For example mods becomes mods2.2.1.
Upload the folders to the server (since they have been renamed I can leave the server up for this part).
Use my update log to ensure I add/remove mods from the uploaded folders and make the configurations changes needed.
Stop my server and BACK IT UP - I can express how import a backup of your world is at this point.
Rename the current server folders to the older pack number. For example mods becomes 2.2.0.
Rename the folders I uploaded in the 2nd stop to remove the version. For example mods2.2.1 becomes mods.
Start and test the server make sure everything works.
If a backout is needed all I have to do is stop the server and rename folders and maybe restore the world if there work block updates or a crash.
