My server is currently running Direwolf20 1.4.7. I see that there is a 1.5.2 version. I ave had a lot of problems trying to update and I don;t feel like getting into detail. I would just like to know if it is possible to update to it from 1.4.7 without losing my world or anything. Or is it just better to wait for my version to be updated? The 1.5.2 pack has different mods and I don;t want to have any problems with that. Thank you.

Thank you for answering but no to what? No to upgrading? Are you saying it is better to just wait it out?

Though it is possible.
Since you won't go into detail, I'll reiterate the no's to upgrading your existing world.
It will save you a lot of time and hassle to just reset the world.

I'm not sure what you mean by "wait" because as I understand it, none of the 1.4.7 packs are going to be updated past what they are now.

Would it be possible to discuss how to do this update? Some have indicated that the update is difficult but possible. I run a server with a 2 year or so old world running Direwolf20 1.4.7 and would like to update it to 1.5.2, but I'm facing significant problems. I have managed to get my server happily running 1.5.2 with my old world by simply doing the update, but I'm facing problems on the client side.
The killer problem I am having it that the minecraft client just crashes pretty immediately after the world is loaded. It gives a number of different rendering errors as an excuse. Help with fixing this would be very useful, as I'm really unsure where to start.
Another is that RedPower has been removed from the latest mod, I believe because it has not been updated to 1.5.2 and the mod maker has disappeared. This has caused massive damage to the server in terms of things going missing, but I'm told it may be possible to replace lots of this stuff with mods designed to replace RedPower. How to do this though, I'm not sure. I've tried using a tool called midas to replace some of the redpower blocks, but it does not seem to detect them all.

I'm willing to put the effort in to get this update working and hopefully find a way to get others to do the same, but I need help. Thanks.

The short answer is:
all of the ID's need to match. You will need to either use an ID resolver or manually go through the master file and change the item/block ID's.

Logs are necessary to provide further help.

Immibis has a set of mods that can help with replacing some items within redpower but does not have machines that redpower had so you would need to use alternatives for them.

Some people may be willing to help but I suggest looking into it yourself and trying to work it out.

Feel like giving me the long answer :)
I tried going through with ID resolver, but it seemed to cause more problems than it actually solved. I presume my aim is to try and get the IDs in the mod files to match the IDs in the world file?

I can give you logs, crash dumps, whatever is useful. Which do you want?

Yeah, I've heard about that one. I would be happy with most things being fixed, really as long as the buildings and most wiring stays there. Not many people on the server use machines.

I have looked into it myself, but hit this crash problem. Hence asking for help here.

I have put the crash report I get after loading up the map here: http://pastebin.com/WPU8bFK0

I can't see anything in it aside from something causing a graphical issue. I'm hoping someone is able to see something in it I am unable to. Thanks.

So does anyone have ideas? I know I'm not the only one who wants to do it and the process will be similar for all I would think.
The crash is also not unique to my computer. I've tested on a couple of others and they have exactly the same problem.

When I tried to update my pack a while ago it was the liquids in pipes that was crashing me. Something about it trying to move invalid blocks through the pipes. Anyway, I loaded my world up in 1.4.7 and removed these items, which took a few hours. This allowed me to load my world in 1.5.2. However, there were many other conflicts (blank items, etc) and I ended up just scrapping my world and starting again. I suggest doing the same. It's a lot of fun to mine and build again. It's really not worth the effort to resolve all the ID conflicts. I don't miss my old world at all now.

Or you can take the option less travelled. Just stay in 1.4.7. I mean if it's working for you and you can't let your stuff go, why change?

The problem with that is that even if my public players don't care, my friends who have been playing on the server for two years do. They won't play anymore if they lose all of their stuff because of how much time they put into it and I understand. Some of them made incredibly massive, detailed structures that probably took forever to make. I want to update so we can enjoy the Vanilla stuff that comes with the newer versions. It seems that IC2 is causing all of the problems so I'll do what I can to try to fix it. If not, then I don't know.
