I'm trying to get away from my usual power generating methods (Blaze farm, Nether pump, Solar farm, etc.) and decided to try a Forestry MultiFarm with Extra Utilities Transfer Pipes. Unfortunately, I've ran into a couple of issues that I just can't seem to resolve. I want to try to fully automate Ethanol production without using anything besides Forestry and Extra Utilities, but I'm not sure it's possible given the bugs I've encountered.

1) I can't insert anything into a MultiFarm. The Extra Utilities pipes just don't connect, at all. No matter which side I place the Farm Hatch or the Pipe it just doesn't connect. This makes it rather hard to provide the farm with fertilizer or anything else. I must admit, I haven't tried anything with providing water to the farm because I'm just using a TE Aqueous Accumulator, but is there any way to insert into a farm without just hooking up a BC pipe?

2) EU pipes don't recognize Forestry Oak Saplings. My farm produces oak trees with genomes, which EU pipes don't seem to want to route or do anything else with. They'll pull them out of an inventory (including the farm itself), but won't place them anywhere; they just sit in the node buffer. I'm guessing it's because of the extra meta-data, but I have no idea how I can strip it from them. I tried messing around with a MFR Unifier, but it kept giving me an odd oak sapling that I'd never seen before that also got stuck in the buffer.

SOLVED: I was just trying to route to the wrong side of the Fermenter. So, there wasn't a valid place to go.

3) Where the heck do I insert mulch and saplings into a Fermenter with EU pipes? I probably just missed the side, but I can't get mulch or saplings into the Fermenter. I can pipe apple juice or anything else (using Liquiducts) in and out.

HALF-SOLVED: Saplings are input from the top. I've had inconsistent results inputting mulch (see below).

I am surprised that it is not working. I am going to try an replicate your problems later. In the meantime. Why not try routing into hoppers instead of the machines themselves. It might work a bit smoother.

The genome meta-data will probably screw up routing. It might not even work well with buildcraft pipes' diamond pipe. It might work if you actually use an example of the saplings that are produced and use that. An ordinary oak sapling will almost certainly not do.

I am pretty positive that EU pipes work with fermenters at least in 1.6x. I will probably check that out later too.

I'm using a multifarm, too. A chest under the farm hatch might be a start. I've got a chest under a farm hatch which has a stone golem transporting the contents of the chest to an item tesseract. Hopefully you can get a start from my suggestion. :)

I think you completely misunderstood my questions... I'm having problems with the interaction between Forestry and Extra Utilities, and after extensive googling, I couldn't find anyone who experienced the same problem or even seemed to have tried what I have. I may have missed it, but I hope to be corrected if I have.

I have no problem automating MultiFarms with Thaumcraft, Buildcraft, Factorization, and (in Ultimate) RedPower. I have no need to get a "start", although you could have used a Smart Core and had the Stone Golem do basic sorting into a Forestry Fermenter, Still, and a Railcraft Coke Oven as opposed to wasting an Item Tesseract. ;)

Thanks. I'll have to try that. From a quick experiment in Creative, it seems to work better.

Yep, I think that it's definitely the meta-data from the genome. I temporarily added a BC diamond pipe to the bottom of the Farm Hatch, and it routed the modified saplings without a problem. I've been using the saplings directly out of the farm in my survival world for testing.

I am pretty positive that EU pipes work with fermenters at least in 1.6x. I will probably check that out later too.

I probably just missed the side input or something, but I'll give it another try as well, because it just seems that it should work.

I can't get the pipes to connect to the multifarms. I don't think there is anything you can do about that other than the hopper work around. The nodes pull out fine at least. To be honest though, buildcraft pipes haven't let me down so far and Applied energistics might be good at this too.

Yeah, I think that I'm going to have to use Buildcraft pipes for input with gates to regulate amounts. Or just use the hoppers and accept that I'm going to have to be careful with item buffering. I was just trying to do it all with one system, though. :(

Although, I did solve at least one of my problems. The routing problem with the meta-data doesn't exist, as far as I can tell. Apparently, it was just that I was trying to route to the wrong side in the Fermenter. So, question 2 is definitely a non-existent problem.

After some testing, I was able to sort of get the Fermenter to work with the EU Transfer Pipes. After testing each individual side in Creative, I thought that Input 'III - Organic Item Slot' (top middle) input from the top (in this case, saplings), and Input 'IV - Fermentation Item Slot' (bottom middle) input from the side showing the 'II - Liquid Tank' (left input tank) (in this case mulch), but my implementation in my Survival world only seems to half work. The saplings input perfectly well now, and seem to be sorted fine. However, I can't get the mulch to input. I'm going to try a few other sides. So, question 3 is half-solved.[DOUBLEPOST=1380169719][/DOUBLEPOST]*Blergh* Sorry to post one right after the other, but I tried placing the Transfer Pipe against the side with the 'V - Output Tank' on the left and the 'II - Liquid Tank' on the right, it went in. So, I have no idea. It seems to be inconsistent behavior, but I just don't understand it.
