Ok so I'm trying to set up a server to run from my computer (am i a fool for trying?) for me and my brother to play on as he is not on the same network as i am. I think I've done everything correctly (obviously not). What i have done is, I have the FTB server launcher, I have a no-IP account set up with my external IP and the default 25565 port, i have the 25565 port forwarded in my router settings, I have input my external ip into the server properties. I get the "server running on this port" every time i run the server start, i even check the task manager to see if there is another instance of MC running. I've tried the canyouseeme site to see if my port is open and it always times out . Unless there is another step I've forgotten to mention or do. And i would like to solve this without hamachi but if its the only option i guess i can.

you can connect locally ?

If so then check router/server machine firewall, port forwards.

Both my computer firewall are off and my networks fire wall is off. And my port forward seems to be fine

the system where your server runs on needs to be 192.168.1.102
(you port forwards 25565 to the local ip 192.168.1.102 )

My guess is that you are giving people your internal IP.
Or that you did something wrong when you set up your external ip towards the No-IP service.

If you are just going to play with your brother, there is no need for something like No-IP anyway.
So just give him the IP that the server machine have.
And make sure that it's not the local IP.

A good way to find out your ip, is by going to whatsmyip.org

To check my IP i use google and search "my ip", and copy paste it. The other thing is in my minecraft window running (with the ip field empty in the server properties) I have 2 servers to select from one is my local ip which is able to be connected with, and a 2nd one using my external IP and the default 25565 port. The one with my external ip isn't able to connect. Also the port check fails so i think that is the problem but i'm not sure what the solution is.

Sorry I did not know where to post this. I wanted to create a local LAN server for a friend of mine on the same network. I am using a mac and have no experience of hosting a server. Could someone help me?
