Hello!

Im really not 100% aware of what each config does, so i thought it was better to ask than make the switch and then ask later...

So far we've been playing with the DW20 pack, but i really like some of the mods added in ultimate (specifically AE, bibliocraft, and a couple more).

Having said that i dont really like many of the changes introduced by gregtech, so my question is how many of those changes are enabled by default on the ultimate pack? (i specially disliked the things like compress to make metal blocks, and similar vanilla/othermod altering mechanics)

Another question: If i change the config on the server, do the clients need to change it as well for their NEI and such to work correctly? I wouldnt mind tailoring the config to our liking, but doing so in the clients with the pack updates and such would be too much.

Third (and last): How would the pack be affected if i simply deleted gregtech from the server only?

I never ran a server, so I'm not sure, but I think the server config should be dominant. A second opinion from someone more experienced than me would be nice though...

1) go to the gregtech config in your configs folder and look for the alternate recipies options (I believe they are labeled "hardmaceratorrecipie=true" or something like that)

2)yes, in order to see the true recipie, your clients must have the same config.

3) there will be some ore's missing but it won't have a huge impact.

p.s. I would recommend giving GT a try. It gives lots of alternative recipies that are easier, more materials from the industrial grinder, and the industrial blast furnace makes steel quicker than the RailCraft one. Just a few examples.

Unfortunately, Gregtech is enabled on hard mode by default, meaning all the changes are also enabled:( If you change the config on your server, you will need to have your clients change it as well. Otherwise, it will cause some conflicting issues which is probably what you don't want. Lastly, if you disable gregtech on your server, your clients need to do the same, similar to your other question. To sum it up, Gregtech is on hard mode and if you desire to modify its' configs or just remove it as a whole, your clients must do the same ;)

Edit: Got ninja'd

Yes, they would. Otherwise all of the clients would see the GregTech hard mode recipes (if they could even connect at all).
I'm pretty sure they will be able to connect, just NEI will show them the wrong recipie. Then people will say "why isn't this working? I have the recipie right" because of the server recognizing a different recipie

Perhaps, in which case you've just earnt yourself a whole BUNCH of extra admin work at BEST.

You know, I ain't got nothing against gregtech changes, they're the norm for me.

But I still think that the default config could have compressed blocks dissabled. I mean, I'd probably cave under that much whining about it.

I agreed on my first GregTech world until I found out about barrels. With barrels, I don't really see any reason to compress my compressable blocks as I can store so much more of the stuff than I'll ever need to use at once.

With LogPipes, and AE, this is even more of a non-issue. What I'd love to see would be ALL compressable blocks using the same system, because copper.... Just yeah. Copper. Bah!

Yeah. AE is unlocked as soon as you can build an assembly table, and that's better than everything ever. Even one ME chest is enough early on.

Exactly. I cannot think of anything more that can be added (whereas with LogPipes, it was obvious that the weakness was that they were forced to interface with a subpar [in regards to the par they've set] storage setup, crafting setup, and the like). Actually, what would be amusing would be an "automated quartz grindstone" which could be powered off of an AE network at around the same cost as a macerator in EU. Besides that, perfection I'd say.

Must convince my friend to upgrade our DW20 server to ultimate. *drools thinking about bibilocraft*
Just to warn you right now - there is quite a lot of new world-gen from DW20 to Ultimate. Also, you need a strong server to run Ultimate. My computer dies trying to run it on SP.

RAM is not the determining factor in most cases, it's single core CPU speed.
