Are the golems really that tough? I have not tried them out since 1.5, but back then I was rather disappointed about their capabilities and usually just used the vanilla Iron Golems instead. They pack quite a punch and a dead cheap to make. Sadly they don't regenerate though, and tend to wonder off if placed in large open spaces.

I don't think you can use both bowtie and iron plating - can you??

IIRC you can, I think I used two of the "cosmetic" upgrades on a thallium golem in my Monster world.
