First, the disclaimer. I'm still rather new to the FTB world, having a little under six weeks under my belt now. I'm working towards a T5 mob spawner. I tried posting over on the FTB subreddit, but the post just got swallowed up by the system, never to see the light of day.
I'm working on building a soul cage mob spawner. I thought it would be cool if I could control the entire thing with a computer from computercraft. I've never messed with bundled wiring before, and feel like I'm missing an important bit of knowledge to get this all working. Anyways, here is a pic to hopefully help explain things. Nevermind everything in the background. I was experimenting to learn how IC2 handled power.

Substitute the lamps for different soul cages and you've pretty much got it. Now I know that a T5 soul cage needs a redstone signal to stop spawning. And my plan is for a computer to send a constant signal down the bundled cable on startup, and for a program to turn off a selected signal to allow the soul cage to work. The problem is that I seem to be getting some bleedthrough of the redstone signal to the adjacent blocks. So, obviously I need some help in the wiring of this thing.

If you have a T5 spawner, you don't need to worry about cabling or anything at all. You can leave the lights on 24/7 and things will still spawn: such is the power of T5 spawners.

The very easiest build is to use a wireless redstone block on the spawner for the inhibitor signal, and then use a computer with the Rether peripheral as your control system.

Or skip the computer for an even easier build and just have a leaver connected to a wireless redstone transmitter.

Well the OP did say "using computercraft" so I can only assume sweet touchscreen builds are on the OP's mind. I did say use a rether module! :D

Something you might want to note, is that not every mob goes along well with others in the same spawn room. You can have zombies, skeletons, Wither Skeletons, creepers and pigmen in the same spawn room, if you use drop traps, or quicksand traps if you want to kill spiders as well (Fall traps don't work so well for Spiders), and maybe even witches, but you'd need a separate one for Blazes, Enderman and Ghasts, due to the way these mobs work. Blazes fly, so drop traps don't work, and they're immune to fire, so lava doesn't work (same for Pigmen), enderman can teleport, so you need to set up anti-teleportation measures, and Ghasts fly as well as being immune to lava and unlike blazes and endermen they don't take damage from water, and keep away from the ground most of the time, making a Ghast mob trap... Tricky. A Ghast Trap would require either periodic floodings of the room (killing by suffocation), or some kind of ranged damage trap, such as deployers with arrows, mining laser turtles and what not. Or MFFS, that works too.

That said, you have a couple options. REther Module turtle/computer to wirelessly transmit the signal, or clever hiding of RP2 cabling and programming the computer to output a redstone signal to a given side when given a certain command. Wireless redstone is fancy, and it has the bonus of working across dimensions, so you can activate & deactivate your traps even if you're somewhere else entirely. Which is nice. Not really completely necessary, but nice.

Uhh just a Huge warning of these things, You gotta use something that doesn't generates those annoying exp orbs or they'll "take over" the server with their bad lagging. Lava disposal pits are all well and good but not lag free so I would just use the MFR grinders just to be safe.

Quicksand might not be the fastest kill but the mobs will not drop XP when they die which is why I used it for my mob reactor.

Oh so they still drop items? that's good for no real energy generation but I would rather harnesses their essence for using an autospawner or two.

How are you keeping the Endermen from teleporting out after they start suffocating on the Quicksand? I thought they teleported as soon as they took damage, or this is only with Water?

They just don't. Its only water.
And Blazes only fly when they are in attack mode trying to kill you and theres nothing under them.

So everything just gets stuck and dies a slow death.

Fun. This menas everything i said doesn't apply, except for Ghasts. I stand corrected.

I would recommend using melee turtles to kill the mobs (with inventories stuffed with Cobblestone, RP Relays behind, attacking on a 0.05 second timer- I think they will automatically stuff drops in the relays behind them), and an XP turtle to take care of the experience orbs. If you haven't disabled GregTech, I do believe that it includes a block that can produce EU by disenchanting things (I would recommend cycling around a thaumium sword here- assuming that it doesn't take damage. Thaumium is probably better than gold, as there's a couple Thaumcraft enchants (i.e. repair) that just won't fit on non-Thaumcraft items). Or you could just store books. Lots of enchanted books.

Note, however, that Creepers might- just might- aggro the turtles. I heard someone mention something about this, but I haven't confirmed it.
Also, Saice, you're grinding Sheep? Does that count as cannibalism?
As for Ghasts, I've heard that High Energy Pellet Launchers from PortalGun work well. If I'm not mistaken, the projectile is basically an Orb of Instant Kill. And when the projectile disappears, the launcher should automatically fire another. Furthermore, it's a block, not an entity, so mobs might not aggro it. (I've had Creepers (as well as other mobs- Spiders are also problematic due to their speed, but Zombies, not so much, as they're slow) aggroing the sentry turrets before... You really need to spam those in order to get enough combined knockback to keep them safe.)

I have not tested it but I have a feeling if you make the ghast spawn on or in the quicksand once in it he would also get sucked down.

Hmmmm maybe I should test that one moment.

I have not tested it but I have a feeling that mobs will not spawn inside solid blocks.

Minefactroy reloaded has a mob grinder that'll do the job without leaving XP orbs.
