Trying to install FTB on Linux... Please help...

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

./FTBA_unix_202202111343-da0b2207d4-release.sh: 683: /home/chris/FTBA_unix_202202111343-da0b2207d4-release.sh.6141.dir/jre/bin/java: not found

It just crashes with this error. What happened to the old .jar? why over-complicate something so basic? Anyhow please help...

UPDATE:
So I switched to Manjaro and it still does the same thing. The Linux installer is broken!

I have the same with my Debian install. But it does work on my Ubuntu install.

Would like an update and bump to this request. I am getting the same issue. Issue is with the app installer.

"./FTBA_unix_202204061044-ef5313e696-release.sh: 683: /home/User/Downloads/FTBA_unix_202204061044-ef5313e696-release.sh.2610.dir/jre/bin/java: not found"

Verified it creates a folder in my Downloads n stuff but does not remain after this entry. Does not matter where it is or whos accessing the file (Sudo/nonsudo)

PCs are a Dell Laptop and custom desktop both running Linux Mint.

Please advise.

This wasn't my first attempt hitting this thread. I wrote out detailed instructions on what I did and what I thought the issue was but since I'm a new user it needed mod approval. Check back in two weeks later and apparently I see no history of mine meaning I guess that post is gone and all that work for naught. Can't remember what I said anymore either.

All this to say I did submit my terminal output after that post you saw above but I did it separately this time so I'd at least have something. It's up to the mods to do whatever ig. Terminal output is under my first post pending mod approval.

Could be just me not looking at the right place, but the only 2 posts I could see on your account were these 2 here.

Yes exactly, my current terminal output and the post above it. The other one I did submit and it went to mod review but is now gone for some reason. Don't know if the mods just say no and it ceases to exist or if you get a heads up your post wasn't approved. Very annoying because that post was very written out

It seems like the script can't find java either preinstalled from a distro (gentoo in my case) or after downloading it. To bypass this, manually read the java url from the script (line 638 for me) and download it using wget inside whatever folder you want:
Then, we can use this to set the INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE variable inside to script to that folder (make sure to use the full path). however, since we cannot alter the script (gunzip will fail), we can provide it when launching the script:
INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE="/home/ynnuW/Downloads/ftb/jdk-17.0.1+12-jre/" sh FTBA_unix_202204061044-ef5313e696-release.sh
obviously, use your own folder path

I had the same problem I fix it by installing jdk.17
Then I switched java version to jdk-17 with this command:
sudo update-alternatives --config java
Solution here seems to have worked. Installed JRE 17 and reran the install script as sudo too and now the app installs & runs. Have not tested launching a modpack yet but I am confident it'll be fine now.

I do believe we still have cause for requesting managers of the install script to look into a resolution, since the script should not be erroring like that to begin with, and if it did fail to download JRE 17 that it properly mention attempting to locate it yourself. Something like that.

However, now that it works for me that is pretty sweet. Hopefully anyone else that finds this fourm can get this answer. Thank you kamalsa!
