I been trying to get some people that are both interested and active but no one will ever actually join for at least an hour a day on most days. I never actually got any feedback on if there any problem with it or anything along those lines so I can't read their minds as why my server been pretty much empty like if I were on Single player. I brought the server for 3 months but still not getting any improvement of activity what so ever. My server only crash 1 time and that's was 2 months ago and never had any major downtime after the first 15 to 30 days I had it. My server is also up to date to the latest Ultimate pack but disabled TW forest until the pack actually update then enable it. I'm providing "as advertised" service since I'm saying there no banned items but I do have EE3 and Mystricraft disabled. Which I did clearly stated and also the temporary disabling of TW forest so I'm not being like an info commercial and tricking people to join. I also said on my thread that I enabled IC2 sounds and buffered the reactors to 20x power output so people are informed of those configs changes I made on the server. It's been also running good too so I don't get why no one that I whitelisted are even joining the server for a decent amount of time per week. Here the server thread http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/thr...timate-modpack-open-and-0-banned-items.10101/ So could you guys try to help me as to why that my server is not getting any real activity for even a fraction of a day? I know it's only a 2GB server that can only take up to about 4 players but hey I should be getting at the very least someone on there for a decent hour per day right? Ho and me myself is very active on the server so that's shouldn't be the problem. So could someone please try to find out why my server is most of time "dead" expect me being on it most of time?

Well what do you have to offer that 500 other servers don't? That's something only you can figure out.

Well for starter no limiting of chunkloading which I can't seem to find on any other server without any "strings attached" as long it's not just sitting there and players are not spamming them. Like if you need a loader to load a setup making Methane 24/7 then fine load it up just enough to ensure the entire thing won't unload but try not to load too many "unused" chunks, on the other hand if you were to load an empty area with no purpose then I'm not okay with that. Another is the great up time I have compared to other I been on before I got one is definitely a plus since they were down at least once every 3 days but my haven't for at least 30 days or so. That's because those had plugins that they were trying to get to "work" on it and continuous crashing along the way that happened on those server maybe around the same time frame as the downtime were. If I had to guess those server were stuffing too many players per GB than a GB can actually support. On the other hand my server is "quality over quantity" which mean I make sure I'm only hosting for as much that the server can take and not try to stuff it further. Cause if you goes the "quantity over quality" route players are not going to like their constant lagging and restrictions to "try to fix" the lag. So those things should say much about my server being different then what's currently in the "market" oh and like I said I buffered reactors to 20x output too so yea that's a good touch for those who actually want to processed well in time and resource consuming nuclear power and beat those annoying solar "competitors".

Well, if you think you have a stable server, you need to advertise. Add it to the serverlists for voting, make some youtube videos, and make a real website. Try Enjin.com sites.

Players are fickle by nature. They will join, goof around and leave. The ones that want no banned items are the ones most likely to be server jumpers or griefers. So the ones that want to stick around don't want to be on the same servers as them. The ones that will stay look for a few things.

- No noticeable server lag (this is where chunk loading might hurt you)
- Some block protection
- Stable server (use an offline server to test things and only load it to live when its stable and tested)
- Permissions & Ranks. Most quality players understand that some things just ruin the experience when noobs get them. If you have a noob thats TPing all over the place in quantum armor and portal guns, they are going to mess stuff up.

So these are only my thoughts based on what I've seen. I feel that if you want no banned items, might as well play single player or creative.

Good luck

alright thanks and I just put it in a server listing so hopefully that'll help promotes good traffic flow and I do have an auto backup every 2 hours so that'll protects people builds should an annoying griefer comes by. Cause all I need to do is restore that and ban who ever were griefing. I done it once and I can do it again. I'll also prevent griefing in the first place by not allowing those who seemed like they're griefers and any "fishy" activity I find out then I can take action before something even happen. Like if there were an auto nuke making factory can be destroyed before that person plan on blowing the server up and get rid of the creator of the plant. So I got both prevention and fixing measures to keep the griefers at bay.

I'd look at a protection mod also. If you get a few ppl on. It's a bit of a hassle doing a restore that way.

Nah it's not a big deal of losing up to 2 hours worth of progress and it's built in so no having to deal with incompatibility, permissions, and other junk.

I run a medium Ultimate pack server, using web analytics I've found 80% of my web visiters come from this forum so maybe try and make your post more shiney :) Add a few pictures here and there for example.

I also have a website + forum of my own which people seem to like quite a lot. When I first started out I found that my website increased my traffic by almost 200% on its first release.

Just some ideas ;)

Just a suggestion I've been using for my servers, target a specific age group, and try to find players that are in your time zone.

Advertise, bump your server, start conversations. People won't just come flocking to you, you need to make it appealing. Post pictures in your posts, get a nice title picture. Also after writing all this I just realized dark wrote the exact same thing. haha
It seriously helps however, DONT USE PLANETMINECRAFT or anything like that. Focus less on plugins and controlling the server, and focus more on creating a community; then it becomes more of a social thing where players want to come see their friends, and less of a sandbox game.

Also a voice comms channel boosted our player times a whole lot!

Check out TeamSpeak, Mumble, of Ventrillo.

Thanks guys but I think I finally have people to play with and not just "say for some time then leave" as I been getting in the past.
