I've been having an insanely hard time finding good amounts of iron in the new DW 1.7 pack. We just did a short mining trip and came home with at least a stack of copper and only 8 iron.

So has iron been nerfed that much? or is it more biome specific now? Really any tips on how to find a usable amount of iron would be great..

I was able to find plenty of iron (many thanks to Dense Ores mod) around 35-40. Stacks of it, in fact.

Edit: A look at the configs seems to show y33 as being the mean height for most of the Iron generation.

Oh, neat. They're doing the TPPI thing, this makes finding ores a lot more interesting. I has having issues finding iron too.. so glad to know I can just pinpoint Y=33 and be swimming in iron like I did in TPPI ;D

I always mine at the same levels, which is 48, 32 and 12
that way I know I'll find a bit of pretty much everything

Yes that's usually how I operate as well but it's not working so well this time.

Edit: Oh wait.. I didn't use 32.. and that's the prime area for iron.

I've been playing the GregTech modpack (3rd Party, InfiTech2) so not being able to find the few ores in DW modpack is something I'm already quite used to. I've gotten quite a bit of good practice at not being able to find most of the 4,673,847 ores included in the InfiTech 2 modpack. I'm a veteran at this stuff now. :D

I'll post this here but I think most people have already found it (the Google doc showing ore levels).

http://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeas...ing_issues_finding_specific_ores_in_the_dw20/

From the Google docs chart, it looks like levels 11,28,33,38 are gonna be good ones where different ore veins might overlap.

Night and day difference. Thanks for this link.[DOUBLEPOST=1414947822][/DOUBLEPOST]

We were going to try InfiTech2 but it kept crashing.

I'm used to mining at 48, 12 and ~3. 48 for copper, and 12 for everything else but dark iron and redstone(in monster). This Iron thing threw me off quite a bit.

it even threw of direwolf in his first episode as he could barely find iron...
this really shows that direwolf was only in charge of the modlist and everything else was done by the FTB team :p

Vanilla iron golem farms are gonna be all the rage again (yay!) thanks to Dire. LOL

Or bees. The answer to everything is always... bees.

I have been mining around level 38 for copper ore, I have found more ferrous ore than copper..... I don't need 158 ferrous ore when I only have 126 copper ore.
