Heh, I don't watch etho's stuff lately. Mostly it's been dire, king daddy, biffa, and those guys on the hermit server. When they started doing ftb it was like - scatter! They all seemed to take their own direction.

Guess I should listen to some etho tonight to see what he's been doing, specially the bore. :)

MFR is a beautiful mod for farming the taller trees.

But, I haven't used SC2 yet. I don't know how they compare in terms of speed. I shall have to try this soonly.

it'll make rubber soooooo easy to come by when SC treefarms can use rubber trees
Is that a planned feature for SC2? Last time I checked there are no rubber trees in forestry. The ones I know of come from RP2, IC2, and MFR.

I was actually thinking the same thing - and also that there is no SC tool that will extract the sticky resin that I know of. It may be able to cut and plant, but you'd still have to manually extract the resin for rubber.

Nah, loads of machines will give you resin from the rubber logs. I often use an old school Forestry tree farm to farm IC2 rubber trees then stick them in a sawmill to get the resin and burn the wood for energy.

IIRC it's Gregtech that adds this recipe in, so people who don't play with it enabled don't have access to that recipe.

I'm not at home to check, but yes, I think you can Centrifuge the wood for resin or rubber, but the rate of return is totally different. That, and it may depend on if you're running GT or not. I play Mindcrack 8.2.0, so I have full GT enabled. I don't touch config files at all.

The Thermal Expansion saw mill can give you resin too. I start with that one and switch to the GT one when I get more advanced because it has a better return.

Well in plain ol' IC2 (such as for those playing the DW20 pack) you can simply throw rubberwood logs in an extractor for rubber. (Though you only get one, instead of three like you'd get from resin.)

I use treecapitator because I like trees rather than floating blocks that are supposedly the 'game style' or 'balance point' or 'difficulty'.

Why don't you use scaffolding to cut the top wooden blocks of the tree, before you have access to something that gives you that functionality, such as the Axe of the Stream? When i play, i just avoid Oaks with side branches, and prefer to cut Birch whenever it's available, using Dirt to reach the top blocks whenever i can't reach it normally. Before long, we get access to automated tree farming...

Would a mfr setup be faster than an sc tree farm
Depends on if you can fertilize it or not.

Other than that, limiting your mfr tree farm to a single block and giving it eu 'stead of MJ will produce wood and saplings faster then you know what to do with it.

consider that if you have Minefactory Reloaded, multiple harvesters can be very fast when fed with UE or EU power (particularly at medium voltage in the later case) because of amount of energy delivered to the machine per tick.

did harvester get increased eu usage? 4 generators through mfe and lv transformer, can supply 3 harvester and some other stuff with no issue

What does the energy you give it matter? As far as i know, whichever you give it MJ or EU it would work at the same speed. But i haven't tried to run my harvesters on MJ yet this map so i cant tell. But does that mean that which type of energy you give it acually matters?
