Okay this might be a stupid or silly question...

I'm currently trying to breed ebony trees which require Kapok and Teak according to the wiki. Now my question comes in with breeding these guys... The kapok trees are really tall and the teak half their size. So will they cross breed? Or do I have to lift the bees, lower the kapok's, raise the teak, etc. Or can I just drop the saplings and let'em grow regardless of height of leaves?

BTW: Second question, are these bred trees immune to bone meal? Tried it a few times on them and nothing....

Height doesn't matter as far as I know I have never had a problem.
Try bonemealing them until they grow it may take 5-10 bonemeal a tree.

With the 2x2 trees and larger, only one of the saplings will actually allow the tree to.grow. I have normally.had luck bonemealing the first sapling placed, but that is not always the case.

Thanks for clarifying the height thing. I wondered how to.cross trees with the sequioas.

Ether i have the wrong recipe... Or its taking hell of a lot longer then it did previously. I've had a Rural bee aprairy going with 3 Teak and 3 kapok's around it... Since I posted this topic and I've had my game running in the background with my in a hidy-hole to protect from monsters while I do other things. I just checked, not a single leaf was mutated... Good... 5 hours now give or take of the game being loaded...

One thing of note. You have to have bees with the "flower" type in order to pollinate trees. Rural bees by default have the wheat flower type.

Mine don't, when I was breeding out a stacking group they got flowers instead of wheat. Even so I have Commons, Cultivated, Imperial, Industrious, & tropical all sitting in the area on autopilot. Still no mutated tree blocks...

You'll need to craft spectacles and wear them to see the crossbred leaves in any of the newer packs.
I saw the crossbred ones on the others. I've gotten a good half of the trees already without spectacles but I did not see any mutations on the trees I had... Chopped them down and got 1 ebony... So might be your right for these... But if so, why didn't I need them for the earlier breeding?

I think the differences for the crossbred leaves have a very subtle difference without the spectacles, but with them they're bright pink and glaringly obvious. I did the myrtle ebony last week though and they did take quite a long time to crossbreed for me, I think the further up the mutation tree you go the longer it takes, but could be wrong here. You can disregard the spectacles if you're playing on anything but the new packs which run on 1.5.2 though.

I have had some trees take forever (~72 real life hours) to start breeding. I dont know why, but as long as you have the right bee all you can do is wait.
