i've thought about the MFFS but i dnt know if it covers a big enough area. is there a max size on them, and can you then perhaps combine a few to make a bigger forcefield?Well, MFFS is my choice. Forcicium is relatively common and, (AFAIK) as long as other players stay away from your base, chunks aren't loaded and energy doesn't get consumed (I may be wrong on this one). In my opinion, a small force field is the best starting setup, just to keep chests safe.
If you want some vanilla traps, look on youtube for spawner based ones, with the portal gun mod they're really easy to build.
nice. whenever you get that set up. let me know if its possible for a "new" player to do xD. sounded overly complicatedI have plans for one that I think will be exceedingly fun to watch people try and get through. It's going to be very expensive, but I think it'll be worth it. At all entry point to my base, I want to place a pit lined with some unbreakable Thaumcraft blocks and filled with quicksand. I'm then going to create a camouflaged force field to cover the pit. Then need to find a way to use another MFFS defense station with the boundary set to sense "intruders" as they are right in the middle of my pit. I'm then going to have the defense station steal their items & deactivate (if possible) the camo-field to drop them into quicksand. With no items to assist in digging themselves out it'll be a nice race to dig out the quicksand by hand...or die. I'll then probably set up a piping system to have (most) of their items pumped from the defense station's inventory to a chest outside the gate that they tried to get in through.
As you can probably tell from the overly elaborate plan, I've been using my time waiting on RedPower to release coming up with more and more plans for my future Volcano Base. Now if I could only find a Texture Pack that turns one of the tamed cats into a more fluffy version that I can name Sparkle, and change the texture for Iron Golems into a more Oranguman-like texture, I'd be set.
Building on this- set up an item stealer near spawn, and ender chest it back to yours.Speaking of traps, you can make something that as soon as unauthorized players come near your house, their items get stolen. And they get electrocuted.
could you PM me on these? I wanna join the fun too!Building on this- set up an item stealer near spawn, and ender chest it back to yours.
Also mount 8 redstone engines on 4 wooden pipes on a white-white-white enderchest for free stuff.
As for protecting your place- build underground away from the spawn (a LONG way- like 1000 blocks or so), and patch in creeper holes/ender-men damage.
Do not edit the surface, or put it back after. (underwater entrances are easy to hide, or build a piston door in a cliff)
Set up quarries near y16, so they set up and quickly get the good stuff without tearing up the surface.
MFFS is high tech stuff, so a few days in you could experiment with a decoy surface base and some item stealing.
(There's also a few easy/fast ways to break other players warded stone, its not as solid as you think- if you work them out, don't broadcast it- I quite enjoy taking the stuff down and replacing it exactly the same so they cant enter their own house. some bugs are too fun to be squashed)
Yeah, I know it's not as safe as the Force Field itself is, but it'll definitely hold up to a completely unarmed player banging on it with his fists. And the only way to escape quicksand is to dig out the quicksand before it suffocates you, or to dig out the adjacent blocks and hope you get to the edge before you sink to deep to walk out of the side of the quicksand block. That's why I'm going to set up the defense station to take everything away from players that try and get in.(There's also a few easy/fast ways to break other players warded stone, its not as solid as you think- if you work them out, don't broadcast it- I quite enjoy taking the stuff down and replacing it exactly the same so they cant enter their own house. some bugs are too fun to be squashed)

And that's why my designs always include obsidian.
