Hey

as I am still new to the modding thing i wanted to ask you if it possible to transport lava or energy form the nether?

My idea is simple: pump lava from a giant lava pool in the nether into geothermal generators. I would use there a world anchor to keep it loaded. I guess i could save it into a battery/energy crystal etc, but i would like to automate it as much as possible.

You would be better off transporting the lava from the Nether, it would also be easier.

One way is to use Mystcraft portals and railcraft tankcarts to transport the lava between the dimensions, or another way would be to use liquid transposers to put the lava into cans and bring it between dimensions with enderchests.

The enderchest setup is simpler and i believe its far more efficient server-wise.

You could also use buckets or any liquid container thats liquid-transposer-compatible.

I say can because lava buckets don't stack and the cans are more tin efficient than cells (cans are 3 tin -> 12 and cells are 4 tin -> 8).

Yes, cans are the most efficient, but i think i read somewhere you not always get the can back when using the transposer?

i could be completely wrong tho!

Railcraft-Mystcraft system requires:
42x mystcraft Crystals (2x 3by4 portal, 2x book-accepting-thing)
1x Liquid Loader and Unloader
4x Boarding track
8x Vanilla track
+ chunk loaders
+ liquid distribution systems
+ something that pumps lava from Nether and receives it in Overworld.

Enderchest system requires:
2x Enderchest
2x liquid transposer (or similar device)
+ chunk loaders
+ cans/cells distribution systems
+ liquid distribution systems
+ something that pumps lava from Nether and receives it in Overworld.

I believe that's only with wax capsules, not with tin cans. But I could be wrong too ;P

8x Vanilla track

since railcraft is on every modpack, I would not call them vanilla tracks :p

You only need 2 boarding tracks not 4. You only need 24 mystcraft crystals. Each portal only need 1 book receptacle and 4 crystals.

I use the Mystcraft / Rail system and it's worked great for me. Something it does automatically is pace itself by holding the transport cart when the receiving tank is full. I'm not sure if/how other systems manage this.

I set up a railcraft system over the weekend, on a bit larger scale. I used a double tank cart system to get more speed, and the target is the largest possible railcraft iron tank (6.2 M units of lava). It filled up pretty quickly also! The only manual part of it was I used a redstone energy cell to power the pump (just plopped down right next to it) and planned on replacing it with an engine, except the cell powered the pump to fill the 2 mil temp holding tank in the nether AND the 6.2 mil tank in the overworld and it's still 90% full of energy. Pumps are cheap on energy use, I guess.

While it was filling I worked on Thaumcraft researches, next project is to set up a lava centrifuge system.

Also, like Quixote said, once the tank is full the carts just sit partially filled at the unloading station ready to go when I start siphoning off some lava. No fancy system to deal with overload needed.

If you only have 64 cans/cells in the liquid transposer setup then you never have to deal with overflow.

The liquid transposer that empties the cans will hold a stack of 64 lava cans and only empty one when there is room. When there is, it will empty and send it back round the system to be refilled and put back in the stack. Nothing extra is needed.

There is that option.

TBH the reason I wanted to set up a rail system was more to do with I haven't really touched rail systems since trying tekkit then moving to FTB and wanted to see how it works. Building rails in the new system is extremely annoying compared to vanilla but the extra track types seem to make up for it, especially the junction track- I wished for that MANY times in vanilla MC. As I consider my world a test until RP is released, I'm mainly trying to test as many different systems as I can.

Are the thermal expansion Tesseracts in yet? Seems you could just use those to transport lava or energy anywhere you want. I see those being a replacement for the missing build craft teleport pipes (which didn't work crossword as far as I know)

the teleport pipes is part of a mod called additional pipes but i thinks every dimintion had his own network
