"easy" is relative. you still have to gather resources and if you want any automation you'l have to gather resources and configure the mods properly. only if you understand it of course. This game is about creativity. Golem farms make iron from nothing after some work. would you say they make vanilla too easy? People skip hundreds of overworld blocks in vanilla by nether portal hopping. does that make the game too easy? people even take wheat, books, carrots, potatoes and sometime if they're luck DIAMONDS from villages and temples and dungeons instead of tedious hours mining and harvesting. is THAT too easy? lol.

if anything vanilla is turning into the mods. enderchests are a mod creation. hopper systems & comparators are knocking at redpower's door.

personally I REALLY like the boat mod idea. boats get over looked a lot. giving people reasons to build canals and creative water flow systems would be awesome

By your response, I'm taking it that your changing my definition of easy. Re read my post, I never once said automation was easy. Vanilla is meant to be vanilla. Jeb and Notch didn't plan on a player to utilize q-suit armor with an explosive shooting mining laser to kill the ender dragon.

yes, vanilla is easy. ftb is shockingly easy regardless of what pack or setting is chosen. still, many players want it even easier - look at what's requested in the computercraft forums. those guys want turtles that do every single thing for them. at that point, why bother?

Back in beta, we used the Nether as a highway system. Every one block you travel on the x and z there is equal to 8 blocks in the overworld. That was loads of fun to build. I've played on worlds that really, really like railroads, but thats never been my thing. I don't know why, but its just not interesting to me.

On a server I played on before the one I run with family, we used ic2 teleporters. The world was limited in size to a 2000 block radius, which kept costs from getting too insane, but it was still expensive to travel between the central hub and whatever base you built outside. That made for some fun projects.

In our current world, we've been making extensive use of linking books for long range transportation. We try to minimize the portal gun usage due to lag. I've been contemplating ic2 teleporters for in-base movements, especially to maintenance areas (using a gregtech player detector to only allow myself into them) or accessing the more complicated circuitry...

I use a combination of linking books and Portal Gun portals. Occasionally the Portal Gun portals will glitch and stop working, and then I fly like Superman using the Power Suit.

Took me a while to catch up to that tunnel bore 6 km away...

Nether railways are big things in vanilla, but severely underused in FTB due to instant transportation. Incorporating Nether Portals in travel networks can cut the tracks needed by a factor of 8 due to the way the mechanics of travelling in the nether work. Usually when i see someone using rails, it's for ease of access to their branch mine, and never really about long distance travelling. Also, being able to produce nearly all of the game's resources without having the need to travel to specific biomes significantly reduces the importance of long distance travelling. TP Commands on servers as well...

Seems many mods are interested more in replacing rather than enhancing the vanilla experience.

Honestly Steves carts 2 adds a half decent transportation cart which you can ride AND manually controll the direction with a nice visual GUI [i believe is the term] I use it now between my rail systems from my quarry fields to main base to other cardinal directions that interested me. Usually 1k appart. I LOVE rails, always have and... if you end up dying you can have a half decent ride back to your base/home to general safety if you plan it.
