Titanium, to craft or not to craft, that is my question.

No, there are other ways.

What you need to do is find some Bauxite - it lies under pretty much any forest-like biome in ExtraBiomesXL, for instance - and then put it through an industrial electrolyzer. If I recall correctly, this will give you a few tiny piles of titanium dust, which you then combine into piles and feed into an industrial blast furnace. You'll have to use some reinforced casings to get the temperature high enough, I think.

You'll also end up with a bit of aluminium if you do this, of course.

You don'T need Reinforced casing for ttanium; 34 standard casings + 2 lava bucket in the middle of the blast furnace set up will give a total of 1520 K (enough for titanium and silicon plate)

Personally, I found a good amount of bauxite (a couple stacks) by exploring a hollow hill in the twilight forest. Granted, it costs a diamond and hollow hills are extremely dangerous, but the risk is most definitely worth the reward.

Personally I used bauxite for mine. Although I did only want enough for a diamond jack hammer...
