This is a lot of oil

I was on my way back to my base after fruitlessly searching for a village, when I came across this:




As far as I can guess, it spawned on a tree? I'm afraid to jump in it and check because I'm pretty far from home and don't want to lose where it is if I die. My main issue with the spout itself is this:


Which of those do I start pumping at?

I think the pump can be placed right at the top there and will clean up all the oil blocks around the one you're pumping.

if you dive inthe water and look down, there should be one hole in the ground. you need to pump above that specific spot to get to the oil bulb. note that this gesyer probably doesnt have much oil, just tree spawned geysers give that illusion. the ones you want are the super tall spouts with no nearby floater terrain, indicating a monster well. those are rediculously rare.

Runo beat me to it. Those forest spouts are deceiving. you could end up with 10,000 buckets, or your pump could finish by the time you get back to your base. The bottom is the indicator, although large spouts are a good sign. I hit a 14,000 bucket bowl recently and the 3 spouts since then have been less than 4000.

4000 buckets? Thats good for me, usually they only have around 500 buckets.

I think it looks like a lot because it spawned on top of a tree, you should find that (whilst there's still a lot) it's less than you think.
In general one oil well is enough to last me until I stop using oil, even a tiny one.

Spout was up to the natura cloud level. Easily 40000 buckets.

40000, really? Wow. Yeah this one isn't nearly at cloud level. I'll try to pump it anyway, though, because it's still the biggest spout I've seen so far.

Guess I'll just have to put all my items in a treasure chest before I dive down to see where I should put the pump.

You put the pump at the top of the spout. It will extend below automatically

Once you get an oil age or find an oil biome (thank you 1.5 BuildCraft *kisses Sengir CovertJaguar on the ass*) you don't even care how big an oil spout is, theres so many spouts nearby it doesn't matter. Also, I've pumped oil to the point where I filled about 2 or 3 BC tanks *grrrrrrrrrrrr*

I have a single well that so far has given me a fuel tank full of 2,000,000 mB (not counting what has been burning for 2 days so far) and an oil tank full of 2,000,000 mB with no end in sight. 1.5.2 beta glitch or is there some magical fountain of oil I've found?

That looks like it would be a pain to filter all the water to get the oil. Also watch out for lightning strikes...

AFAIK MFR has a liquid filter sorting block thing, to tell all
Water to be voided and oil to be tesseracts/ender tanked home.

Lightning does seem to be a problem for these though, based on some other threads/posts.

There's no glitch, mB stands for millibuckets. Drop three zeroes for the actual bucket count and you only have 2,000 buckets of oil. It's a fairly decent amount but not the 2 million you thought you had.
