Hi guys, in 1.6 how does everybody make their mob essence? I've got three 9x9 cursed earth spawners with 9 grinders each, they're all in separate dimensions and all have magnum torches to make things as efficient as possible, I've tested & they all produce mob essence, but it still doesn't seem to be enough to keep up with one autospawner. anyone else having problems meeting mob essence demands or am I just on the wrong track?

your simply on the wrong track make it a 3x12 and then separate the 12 blocks to 3 blocks each each this way you have grinders that actually don't need upgrades then let it run for some time a good 30 minutes will do and watch the essence flow

mobs despawn if they player is out of range- try a cursed earth spawner close to your base instead of in a separate dimension.
Mobs don't despawn in mystcraft ages unless someone is in the age.

Any way, What are you using the auto spawner for?
also: has anyone done the math on the 'optimal' size of a cursed earth farm? For example does something NxN large push the mob cap? You could try to expand the farms or create more platforms.

Personally with the changes(and crashes) in Soulshards and whatnot the era of giant 'powered by mobdrops' setups or just having an infinite supply of certain drops seems to be over.

I haven't started collecting mob essence in 1.6 yet, but I've been thinking about trying a tainted slime farm...Auto spawning exact copies uses a lot more essence, so you may want to check your settings on the MFR spawner.

Wait... The Wiki on the Grinder says a 5x5 area. Did that change?

Edit: No, pretty sure it's a 5x5. Newer Direwolf20 vids support the wiki.

well I did post Bevo's video on his mob grinder example... so yeah I could be mistaken but for compact sakes I just had to say 3

Well, i got to thinking about it but i don't know the numbers. If a 5x5 patch of cursed earth spawns faster than the grinder can kill, then it would explain Bevo's patch of 3x3.

It is 5x5 and the grinder can keep up with the cursed earth well. :) All my grinders use 5x5 even those in my video linked above. In the video above I have 3 cursed earth rooms and each of those cursed earth rooms are 5x5.

[EDIT:] I should correct myself. In a recent SSP LP I did use 3 grinders per 7x7 MFR Spawn room, though all of my cursed earth rooms were less than 5x5 SSP LP build. Why the cursed earth rooms in there were less than 5x5 was I miss counted when doing the build and didn't feel like redoing the entire main building to make room for 4 5x5 rooms so just left out the walls. lol :D

Regarding the 7x7 rooms there were several reasons for the 3 grinders per... One I wanted to try out 7x7 rooms since I was using MFR Spawners for ghast. I wanted to test for better yields. Why I used 3 grinders per room is the grinder only do 5x5 and the rooms were 7x7, also MFR Spawners are crazy fast and I wanted to make sure I kept up fast. So ghast didn't sit in the room for long.

Note: the yields on the 7x7 Spawn rooms was bloody nuts. I mean the ghast and witch rooms were producing just crazy amounts of stuff. They were wild. From my test the yields were far better.
