I am/was perhaps a bit optimistic in my Obtuseness.

@iChun's Portal Gun mod has a number of items, Thermal Discouragement Beam included, that show up in the creative inventory, but cannot actually be created. They mostly bear flavor text promising imminent completion.

Yes, also the emancipation grid never worked. When I try to place it iChun tells me he told me not to use it!

I swear I saw a version of the mod with working lasers once, may not have been one Ichun made. I think it was in Mindcrack pack but I forget.
