Hello,
I've been watching your series the last few days as I restart my world 3 times, trying to decide where to live
I ended up taking up residence in a grasslands village, near an autumn forest. with badlands, desert, swamp all fairly close. though I plan on making a stable portal world. then branch out from there for storage, bee biomes, etc.
I wanted mystcraft and not gregtech, so I have been playing the Direwolf020 Pack. I need to figure out the configuration stuff! I ran around for 2 days trying to find an ocean or underground hive .. before I realized extra bees wasnt included! Doh.
I have watermills ( 16 ) and generator with 3 coke ovens, and a powered furnace with biofuel engine ( water/lava). batpack, chainsaw, and mining drill, So I am a bit behind you on the power curve
I have found 4 villlages, it seems most of the villages with the biomesXL end up being fairly messed up unless they get lucky on flatlands, ugh!
I also found the ender portal dungeon quite by accident, so I have several stacks of books now, so I am about to blitz mystcraft and try to fill up my notebook.
Anway, enough about me!
I am enjoying watching your videos as I play, It gives me alot to aspire too, I started FTB like 2 weeks ago or so. so almost everything is new to me.

Is it better to stick with buildcraft, or with industrial craft power systems ?
Is there anyway to run buildcraft/forestry stuff with IC power ?
Running for lava/water to keep my furnace going kinda stinks , though I am digging a spiral stair up under my setup now, to a ravine filled with lava, my next task is to figure out the pumps and water extractor, after my Mystracraft blitz!

I've found that both MJ and EU are pretty important to have around. There's a huge amount of options for power generation, so it's probably a good idea to experiment and find the one (or two or three) that works best for you. A lot of the fun for me is experimenting with the different systems available and figuring out which ones end up being the most efficient.
You can convert directly from EU to MJ with an electrical engine, which will be your best bet. It's generally less efficient than generating MJ directly by some other means, but works fine if you have a surplus of EU (particularly with solar panels, which I've been avoiding just to challenge myself to try other options). Converting the other way (EU -> MJ) is a little bit harder; using a magma crucible with a geothermal generator is probably simplest, but it's a bit slow.
I am kinda disapointed in the water mill, I am not sure if it is a bug, if you are filling water mills with bucket, and you have them chained together, only the one closest to the batbox will consume its internal water.
I tried with copper cable to see if bandwidth was the issue, but there was no change. and needing 128 to get 32 EU/tick passively seems underwhelming.
I have completed my pipe run, to my lava pool, I just need to build and lay the pipe / pumps, and get the geothermal generation hooked up. I saw your comments on the solar panels in your video, and havent tried them yet.

Weird! I know VintageBeef uses a water mill/water bucket setup for his power generation, and it seemed to work with all of the water mills active at once. I haven't tried them myself though, so I don't know much about how they work.
Solar panels are definitely worth a try, they're pretty good. The only reason I'm avoiding them is to keep things interesting, because I found that in my test world, I ended up just using advanced/hybrid solar panels for all of my EU needs and electrical engines running off of them for all of my MJ needs. Just wanted a bit more variety for my LP.
The bucket filled arrays I have seen all had the output coming from the top of each water mill, mine are connected bb-wm-wm-wm from the shore, out into the ocean, i wonder if connecting together through the sides is the culprit ? I will try a vertical stack tonite and see.
Seems like that shouldn't be an issue, but then I haven't really played with water mills. Will be interested to hear if that fixes it.

I abandoned my mechanical ambitions for now, and started messing with Mystcraft.
10th book I have no weather, normal time, villages, small biomes, wastelands, woodlands, forest hills.
The cows look sick but I feel ok! One silverwood sappling, and 2 meadows and 1 marbled princess so far, the creepers chased me back to re-equip though! Made me some bags, iron tools/bronze armor, and I am clicking the book in 3, 2, 1 .. bsbbsssszzzzzzzzz
bah, it was a fir sapling in the forester bag, I shoulda looked before I got all happy
Yeah , so, i got 50 or so forest/meadow/marbled princess before I finally got chased out..
I Don't know if the minimap lost my waypoint, or that part of the world decayed, not sure I want to go back in to see!

Ugh, I was living in a 9x9 hole in the ground, down about y=40, my little island had a fence and torches, i was using a water drop to get down, I got dropped by a creeper <.< while i was cleaning up a chest full of bees on the ground, another one dropped on me, and I had mashed bees for supper
I still dont know which part of my hole was dark enough to permit mob spawns, or if they just jumped the fence !

Episode 30: Crazy ThaumCraft tools
I had just been on a long round about trip. I was running in the dark, to get to a glowing hive, fell down a hill and got creepered. Llost 8 15 slot bags, a bee bag, a canvas bag, 2 pages of bees, only 2 were valiant, my fortune 3 efficiency 5 pick... 20 stacks of appetite that i got from a single deposit, the Potato portal gun I got from this, small surface ruin, Thaumcraft I think, it was spawning zombie pig men.
My goal for the next week is to start thaumcraft, work on skelly and zombie soul shards, my new portal gun, and, not die! Time to watch #30

My goal for the next week is to start thaumcraft, work on skelly and zombie soul shards, my new portal gun, and, not die! Time to watch #30

Dang, that's rough! I don't suppose you had Rei's minimap set to save death points? That's saved me from losing stuff in similar situations many times...
Don't know much about Redpower 2 yet, though I'm learning slowly. From what I know, blulectric -> magma -> geothermal is probably the most direct EU conversion you'll be able to get from it. Without using IndustrialCraft solar panels, it's quite a challenge to get something satisfactory EU generation up and running... I really need to get my nuclear reactor going one of these days!
