Tee hee. I did not know about the slab furnace until I saw Funshine's playthrough -- and I had already gone past that point. I got my starting cobble in a manner befitting the person that kept the island intact, complete with a cobble-lined hidden room -- a reward bag with compressed cobble :).

That description did NOT go to the judges, or at least, I did not see it.

Yea, that would have been a big thing.

Hmm. Well, you currently have a respawn point that is outside of the lab -- at least, I respawned outside of the lab when I was killed by a witch.

I use the standard 854x480, with auto size gui.

EDIT: Grr, I must have missed this. What do you sieve to get pumpkin seeds?

EDIT 2:

Well, following what should be fairly standard lab practices, I'd have an acid wash ready to kill it off, and it would be done in small, tiny quantities.

I mean, letting a bio-engineered lifeform out of the lab, into the wild, without putting in one of the now several anti-reproduction gene hacks that are known? ... Ok, in fairness, the ones I know of are about anti-seeds in plants, but there has to be something that is the equivalent of "short telemeres" to prevent runaway cell replication.

EDIT 3: Ohh, idea!

Start the player with the quest book, in the lab.
I believe HQM can hide quest lines completely, not just have them shadowed.
Your initial quest chain is "Lab Schedule".
The first (visible) quest item is "Start bacterial experiment", with a description "It's time to test this. We should be able to make a new lifeform to cure cancer, by preventing runaway cell growth."

Quest 2 triggers by location, and is the "collect a sapling" quest.

Thanks again!
Great Idea at EDIT 3. Will try to implement on next version!

I really liked your way of keeping the island as it is. There's nothing wrong with it. (But I think It is harder because of the Mobs from Ender Zoo). It has something to do with the main plot. When you progress more in the quest book you will understand what I mean (Don't want to spoil the future quests).

Oh, I'm going to have to go on a massive torching spree; that much I know. I'm waiting until I can get pumpkins, so I can do a "trademark" overkill pumpkin farm.

Jack-o-lanterns provide as much light as glowstones, work under water, don't set off any mod's flammable gasses (Glenn's gasses, reasonable realism, etc), and don't have the "smoke particles". Plus, it just feels safer.

... What day of the week should I do that island torching? Would people watch an entire episode of nothing but walking around, lighting up an island? :)

Yes, the ender zoo mobs are serious pain. Serious, _serious_ pain. That "fallen knight" should not be a zombie. I can't let the world go to night until I have spawns under control, and I can't get rid of my tree / "despawn plank" until I do. Early on, I wanted to hunt spiders for string, but the ender zoo mobs (creepers!) made that too painful.

Hmm ... I just realized I can be fishing now -- got string and water. Steak, Mutton, Fish, Chicken, that's before any farm products (apples, bread, etc). Hunger Overhaul/diminishing won't be an issue at all for me. ... Except for the number of inventory slots they take up. Gee, if only there were backpacks :)

The Spice of Life mod has a lunchbag and a lunchbox to carry your food in. Just be glad there isn't a mod included (Yet!) that causes your food to rot

Instead of putting the bacteria above ground---where they are visible---you could put them under the island with a timer that starts them anyway when night falls. Then anyone who thinks they have gotten away with something by breaking the map will find themselves up the proverbial excrement creek without a water floatation device. Unless, of course, they were hiding in the tree when darkness fell.

Ohh, I love it!

Daylight sensors can be configured to test for night time; the test could be as simple as a daylight sensor, 4 blocks of redstone, a block+torch to invert it. Presto.

Sure, the obvious wire going to the obvious siren is broken, but there could be a second wire, siren, etc.

It's not perfect -- since you don't have "Somnia", night is not "simulated", but skipped -- if someone gets a bed the first night, there won't be a siren.

Of course, if you add somnia, and they try it, they might find themselves sleeping when the bacteria multiple and the siren goes off. Think they can wake up in time? :)

This I did not know. I was expecting to use a forestry backpack. I will check what a lunchbox looks like.

Meanwhile, what do you think would happen to an island full of wool in a lightning storm? ... I better make sure nothing of value is on the wool ... which means moving the animal pens ...

Isn't there a mod that allows you to make unbreakable blocks? If the house was built out of something unbreakable or at least hard to break---except for the glass next to the hammer, which i would suggest changing to regular glass so that the player doesn't get to keep it---that would be better.

Episode 4.

Lighting up the house. Setting up a farm. Getting farm animals. Some quest progression.

Watch on YouTube

Things to note:
1. One week left for judging. Fun and games are over, time to get serious. There will be significant amounts of off-camera stuff now.
2. Thunderstorms can set fire (lightning) to wool. So everything will be moved onto the grass.

So, looking over the vein miner config, trying to understand what it can and cannot do:

1. "Axe" includes the TConstruct Hatchet, but not the axe+hoe multi-tool.
2. Both the axe and the crook can harvest leaves, but not infected leaves.
3. Ohh ... the hoe can vein mine/harvest all the plants! ... Err, no, only the vanilla plants. Please extend that to harvest the mod plants added as well?
4. Only the "small" TiC tools are listed for Axe, pick, etc -- the big tools do not have vein miner support. NB: If you take the lumber axe (seemed like a good idea at the time), and then crook-mine the leaves, the lumber axe can no longer clear out the wood quickly.
5. ... You have the pick defined to veinmine the gravel ores? Wouldn't that be restricted to a shovel type tool (gravel)?
6. "Shears", tool list, does not include the precision shears.
7. Shears, block list, does not include infected leaves. Or wool ... I'll thank you for that.
8. Shovel is only listed for clay and gravel. Not sand, dirt, grass, gravel ores ... I should probably thank you for not listing grass and dirt :).

EDIT:
9. Hammer will not veinmine clay, it is single block at a time

How do you get more princesses? You get one from an early quest, but it never makes more than one. I don't know forestry / bee breeding.

Aha! The scented artificial hive, plus an induction smelter, can make all of the base forestry hives, which give bees.

... How do you make a scented artificial hive? The recipe for the unscented one seems simple.

EDIT: Hmm, few oddballs. Fluid transposer? Milk for a marble hive, destablized redstone for a nether hive, water for a water hive (that one makes sense), and ... no way to make a rock hive?

Well, I've done just about all the easy quests, and now it's time to decide whether or not "I want help"... I love the choice, just haven't made it yet. Still having fun.

Oh, and a question. Is there a "changelog"? I started over with version .21 and was wondering what changed vs .20. (and, all you githubbers, no, I don't mean at the code level! ;) )

Yes I've updated the QuestBook Intro, added a quest to help with no rain situation, and other minor changes.

Alright, this is definitely bugged.

I just used two crooks, on two birch trees, with vein miner. The only drop was one oak sapling. Needs a retest. I never saw the birch saplings drop, but there were two in my inventory when I went to clean up. Not sure if I was carrying them, or if they were fresh drops from the tree

I don't think any oak trees were close enough, and certainly none got stripped.

Either the crook does not work on birch trees, or veinminer + crook + birch is not working.

EDIT: Crooking an oak gave me two silk worms, one apple, no saplings. Again, crook + veinminer

... seriously? Attempting to pick up a beehive results in the beehive being destroyed unless you use a pick-axe, which sounds like it should break the beehive like cobble?

Glad I saved it first, just in case. Why is a wooden beehive not considered wood and either axe or hand?

Really don't know. I will forward this issue to Sengir, developer of Forestry.
