A thing that I threatened to do on a friend's server. Basically a bunch of wirelessly-controlled Igneous Extruders buried deep underground somewhere feeding into Buildcraft pipes attached to nothing. The wireless control was there so it wouldn't start up until a few hours after I got off the server.

I was once on another server run by a different friend back in 1.2.5 where I helped someone set up a BC quarry, and they decided to throw all the quarried stuff into an Energy Condenser or fifteen to turn it into dirt for some reason. Then the condensers got blown up somehow... that took a long time to clean up...

Double triple ninja sorta-kinda-not-really: A terrible temptation I have had for atleast two years to go on a random modded server that permits building in spawn chunks. Get some type of cobble/item generator that just spits items out and then watch as they freak out from the lag.
I have not done it and even if I did these days we have stuff like Opis so it would not be as effective, but still my evil side is tempting me...

The strange evolution of minecraft performance (I can never figure out what versions it has gone up and what versions it has gone down, and for some strange reason seems to vary person to person for no reason what so ever)

It's be even easier now with ExtraUtilities' super-fast cobble generation. Stick one of those on an Open Crate from Botania...

The problem is, item entities are not that laggy anymore as they stack.
if you want to have a thousand entities you need to have 64000 items on the floor (if I did my math right) and you need to have them in 5 minutes

but can it make 64000 in 5 minutes and get them all fast enough on the floor. If you use buildcraft pipes you are even more limited

if you want to kill a world install massive tech and give yourself an "infinite" amount of those purple stars that say that bad things may happen if you stack them. :p

Who said they all occupied the same area? While it would greatly increase the material and time cost, you could spread out the open crates and use the speed upgrades in the nodes, with hyper rationing pipes to make a one entity out of one entity. Then you could have the items shoot into a number of nether portals, each loading a chunk in the nether on and off several times in only a few seconds... dang I wish I could try this for the heck of it now, stupid computer performance

First thing: Lolz.

Offtopic for thread, but on topic for discussion: Based on my empirical testing, a transfer node with five stacks of world interaction upgrades and one stack of speed upgrades (which, according to my testing, is the fastest configuration) will fill an adjacent crystal chest with cobblestone in 115*0.2 = 23.0 seconds, as measured by a ProjectRed timer and counter. The crystal chest itself has a 9x12 slot inventory, so it holds 9*12*64 = 6912 cobblestones. Therefore, it generates cobblestone at a rate of 6912/23.0 = 300.521739 blocks per second, or 300.521739*60*5/64 = 1408.69565 stacks per five minutes.

Dumping that into an Open Crate and letting it run for a few minutes, I get... a lot of FPS lag when I look at the pile of cobblestone, but not much if I move back or look away. And it had no noticeable impact on TPS. In the process of constructing 320 open crates with hyper-rationing pipes, I managed to crash my instance (evidently, Funky Locomotion doesn't like either extended drawbridges or ProjectRed wire; not sure which), so I don't know how much damage that would've done.

Tossing a cobblestone into a portal to an unloaded chunk every few seconds, though... that could be seriously bad for TPS. I might have to try that sometime. With Mystcraft portals, though.

giving your self an "infinite" amount of those stars that don't want to be stacked in an inventory from super massive tech mod.

seriously that mod has potential just because of its armor *watches all entities float around him, unable to do pretty much anything*

Ninja: On topic: lolcats or whatever it is

Off topic: mystcraft portal...we could load and unload several dozen dimensions in less than a second if their chunkloading is similar to nether portals.

The armor in Botania that spawns pixies

not as fun as the armor from super massive tech. *Puts his armor on repulsion mode and pushes everyone from a cliff while keeping a nice amount of distance*

Its from the mod super massive tech and it has some nice ideas, I just love the armor.
