I just don't get it why they made a row in the database for the amount that needs to be paid instead of using that row to store how much have been paid.

the reason why I don't get it is simple, now every time the order changes that row needs to be changed and may even end up going in the negatives. But if you just use it to store how much have been paid neither are a problem
