Why does it now lead to a cave?

I think portals have a random number generator and just put you at random coordinates.

Wait, that'd actually be pretty cool...

until it spawns you in lava that is >_>

No, it's not random at all. It depends on your overworld coordinates. If more portals are next to each other the nether portal will throw you out at the closest one possible.

I know that, but that still doesn't explain why it now leads to a cave that didn't seem to have any exit instead of connecting to mine

you have to link your overworld portal and nether portal

well, the portal in the nether also got blown up, it then created a new portal in the nether 3 blocks away from it.

Well, I think we have 3 nether portals in the nether and all go to the Cave <.<

Each block in the nether is multiple in the overworld.

1 to 8 ratio to be exact.

And the range of portals is that multiplied by chunks i think.

I however once lived with someone who never played with the mods in the pack before(ultimate) it was pretty funny

well, now do it with the 1.4.7 gregtech on hard mode especially since I never used that myself at that time

It was an awesome time though.
