Has anyone seen any cool designs for convering those thaumcraft mounds into a multi purpose XP grinders?

Any links or tips appreciated :)

Ethoslab did it a while back in his FTB series. Can't remember when, though. I think it was within his first 20-something episodes, however.

Sent from boobs (because why not?)

Thanks sis, I will have a dig around his channel.

Decided not to use Soul Shards in my Unleashed world, so this seemed like a cool opportunity to harness two spawners (plus a ton of wisps, whatever good that'll do) in there own little structure.

Should be a fun project (.... famous last words)

The wisps, in general, aren't very useful unless you want to use the essences for research or storing up various kinds of essentia. If you happen to find a gravity or portal gun, you can relocate the spawners to a mob trap of your choice rather than attempting to build one in place.

Take a look at the "Cursed Earth" from the Extra Utilities mod. That should make for a really efficient and compact mob spawner.

5x5 spawn room with MFR Grinder, 2 blocks high, sticky pistons above the ceiling and beneath the floor. Then you can switch the spawner off with a simple redstone signal. If that doesn't produce enough drops/Mob Essence, then you can easily stack it across multiple levels.
If you are after xp instead of drops/essence, then I would make the spawn room larger and maybe use a shifting floor design.

I made one in 1.4.7, just a water elevator up 20-30 blocks then a drop into the main area of the mound. I know this is a crappy picture but in game it looked sweet. Had a steampunk house on a cliff over looking it, was a grand sight. Great for minium shards and arrows. The inside was pretty much the same except the addition of the drop chutes, filled in the hole in the middle, and added a piston door. Here I know it's bad, only picture i got left since the machine died on me. I used jacketed RS wires to control the drop, but you could use MFR just as easily.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas.

In the end, I decided to glass in the dark node and built a simple water collection system which now moves the mobs to a central kill chamber. Plus since the mound is only a hundred or so blocks from my base, I have contained those pesky wisps, before they become a problem in the future.

make sure you arnt in the nodes aura range, or when you start messing with thaumcraft youre gonna get a LOT of flux, and probably some giant angry zombies.
heck, youre probably gonna get a few anyway, the dark nodes always produce flux.

Hence, he glassed in the node, to contain (almost) anything foul that it decides to spew forth. Except, of course, storms, lightning strikes, debuffs, Flux Goo (if that stuff is even in)...
