Troubles, troubles, everywhere. I'm in the most recent version of Mindcrack FTB, and I've just a little problem with FTB. Since I play Single Player, I have my Config on Gregtech Easy because Hard Mode while playing solo is just a bit ridiculous. That being said, the Mass Fabricator is enabled, and I like going AFK while it works. Here's where the problem is; I got my Flux in Thaumcraft up to Dangerous, some time ago, and by some time ago I mean at least 20 IRL hours ago, but it's still at Dangerous, and no matter where I am in the area, there's frequent lightning strikes that like to burn down part of my house. I got lucky that I came back right after it happened on this ocassion, before it became night (creepers). So, my question to you people is, is there a good way to get rid of Flux, and get it back down to Normal WITHOUT disabling Thaumcraft and Re-enabling it? I have everything researched and REALLY good enchants on my Thaumcraft items, so I DON'T want to do that.

Weeeeell.... you could try to meld your work node with a pure node. But that'll just create more flux before you get there. A lot of it.

You could regenerate the nodes I think - not sure how to do that though.

Make sure your node is exposed (not buried in some mountain). Spawning wisps is the quickest way to get rig of flux, and that can't happen if there is no space for them to spawn. Otherwise, as long as you don't generate any more flux by careless crafting or using tools (especially the arcane bore), it should stabilize over time.

Yeaaa.. The main source of my Flux is the Arcane Bore that I used with a node with 400 vis. The thing drained all the way, and regenerating aura always creates flux. I REALLY need to find where the heck my node is though, as I literally have ZERO idea. I've searched for it with my goggles, and at this point, it's to where I'm about ready to start tearing down mountains around me just to find it. I'd have no problem dealing with wisps if I came across them. I'm just haaaaating this lightning. Doesn't hurt me at all with quantum gear on (Just missing boots, but I've got Boots of the Traveler with Haste 3, Repair 2, Feather Falling 4, Thorns 3, Unbreaking 3, Blast Protection 4 [BOOK ENCHANTING IS AMAZING]). It's just a pain when I'm chilling in my nice wooden house.

Try with a Thaumometer.

Found it. It's not spawning wisps though. Should I use a chunk loader to have that chunk completely active perhaps? I have one already that I could extend the range for. BTW, this is the Sphax texture pack, and those trees are both Silverwoods. Is there a way to get it to spawn wisps, or is it completely random?

It's random, and it might take a while. I don't know if you need to be near the node for wisps to spawn, or if chunkloading is enough. If there is something you have to do in the area, I would recommend sticking around and observing it for a while. Definitely encase the node so that the wisps don't go messing with your everything.

I'm not worried about the wisps :p I love the challenge of fighting those little buggers.

The purple lightning around the node, doesn't that indicate huge flux/instability, or have I been wrong for this whole time I've played FTB? o_O

Any node with flux will start to emit the purple lightning. Normal nodes are just... cloudy, unstable ones are swirly, pure ones have rays, dark ones are.. well, dark.

The lightning that enjoys striking because of too much Flux; Is that lightning able to power a lightning rod?`

What you want to do here is get wisps spawning into a bottle as soon as possible. The only reason it'd be staying there is that it can't spawn wisps (or it is a dark node, in which case... you're sort of hosed). Thaumic bees can help you enormously if they're within reach.

But in the future, the bore should be used with crystal capacitors and crystal clusters. They greatly reduce the environmental impact.

Thaumameters, man. They are useful even if you have your goggles.

Man book enchanting just gives me disjunction and vorpal over and over and over. The most worthless enchants...

Well, take a look at the screenshot. It's not blocked really, it's just got Silverleaf Trees next to it, and it looks like it should have plenty of space to spawn. I will though, get rid of a few of the leaves to see if that helps.
Edit: LOL, as soon as I got rid of some of the leaves and the lamp-post near this node, a wisp spawned XD That's EXACTLY what I needed. Thank god, I can now start having the flux go down quicker with less lightning.

I don't intend to use the Bore again anyway. It's terrible when put against the power of a Quarry, and a Quarry is much safer (No flux).

I found the Node, as shown in the screenshot :p

Book enchanting, heh. It's a pain in the ace, it really is. I've literally used up STACKS of books to get the good enchants. A trick is, with the Soul Shards mod, get 2 zombie shards and 2 skeleton shards, and whatever else you want to, and just go to the Twilight Forest. Find Lich Towers, and just use the soul shards (right click) on spawners, and you'll get Soul Shard levels FAAAAAST. I have a set-up like this. In the screenshot, there's that wall of Glowstone. Previously, before the mod, I had that wall FILLED with spawners, and then condensed them into Tier 5 spawners which are muuuch better. Behind the middle row of Glowstone, I have a line of Repeaters, and that strongly powers the middle glowstone and then weakly powers the ones above and below it, and also sends a power signal to the spawner, which shuts it off. I flip a switch, glowstone goes off, I collect with Sword of the Zephyr. VERY quick levels. Likewise, in the second screenshot, I have Slimes, Pigs, Cows, Chickens, and Sheep spawners, along with those Jars there. So, the Iron Golems are set to kill the mobs, the jars collect the levels, and the wooden golems there just store stuff in the chests that are seen. This one I actually did with Wireless redstone, with a transmitter behind each lever, and a receiver and repeater behind the spawners to turn 'em off. For the slime one, I just have vertical redstone torches. Both of those systems get me levels quickly, and I do intend to improve the spawners soon enough, with portals and drops and actual Wireless redstone for the set of glowstone walls. On the right glowstone wall, is a Wither Skeleton spawner.

I have a similar problem. I am at High for some time...
early when i starter with thaumcraft on the server i made lots of flux to get more wisps for there essence. It worked they where spawning and when killed the flux droped. But now as i wrote i am at high and no wisps spawn.

Don't know how to lower it. If regenerate nodes is checked does it mess with the world in any way or is it only the nodes it affects?

I have find out of control flux for two main reasons in my world. Maybe this will help someone. Both have to do with smaller nodes feeding bigger ones.

1. Wisps can't spawn because to many are already in an enclosed area (ie. spawning only in a small cave)
2. Chunk loaders are causing the node network to unbalance itself.

To solve #1, just find the node and kill the wisps. Allowing more to spawn, releasing the flux.
To solve #2, make sure your chunks either all unload correctly, or make sure you're loading all the chunks in the aura's network.

Good luck!

Chunk loaders work fine to get nodes to spawn wisps. I had one near my thaumcraft base that has 50 crystals charging the local node. Before I had my wisp harvesting station in place, wisps would spawn, then fly off into the nearby unloaded nodes. This meant that when I returned from my travels, there'd be 500-600 wisps hanging in the air around my tower. whoops. Luckily they'd be so old by then that they all despawned within a minute.

Try it with some decent enchants.

Its actually way better than a quarry even without enchants at what it does. A bore will net you way more material at the chosen depth than a quarry ever could.

Quarries are easy and somewhat cheap, but actually horrifyingly inefficient. I think people get a little jaded once they have 2+ steam boilers and energy tesseracts going and they say, "Eh, whatever."
