I've been growing a bright node using the 7x7x7 box method with the bright node in the exact center over the past 4 days (on a server), and the node is now a bit over 100 vis for most of the aspects. I should get an 11 or so energized node out of this when it finally consumes all the feeding nodes. While I've been waiting for this to grow, I found and jarred a lucrum node, which breaks down to all the primals. I ended up with a 3 energized node from this. With it, I've set up the wand recharger, an advanced alchemical furnace, an infernal furnace, and even feeding my arcane bore (mushroom farm). My question is, why do I need a 10+ energized node? Everything appears to be running just fine off of the 3 energized node. I know my wands and amulets will charge faster from it, but besides that, what benefit can I see? And related to this, is what is actually needed to run each machine?

Well, the only benefit I can think of for using a mega energized node is if you want only one node in a central location and use a lot of vis relays to send CVs over your base.

Infernal Furnace takes Ignis centi-vis.

Essentia crystallizer uses Terra centi-vis.

Flux scrubber uses Aer centi-vis.

Advanced Alchemical Furnace needs Ignis centi-vis constantly, requires optional Perditio and Aqua centi-vis to help hasten the process.

Arcane worktable with a vis charge relay placed on top of it to keep your crafting wand charged.

The foci manipulator (aka focus enchanter) uses centi-vis too.

It however doesn't charge wands/scepters/staves inside a wand recharge station/pedestal, those require normal vis from normal nodes.

Bigger node gives more cv/t which is quite helpful for Foci manipulator and charging the KAMI TT Ichorium wand up with 1000vis.

Also, "because you can".
