How do I add new aspects? I've run out of lux, and I only have 2 more of terra, I have looked at almost everything in the vicinity of my home, and I've only managed to research one item so far.

Some hopefully helpful hints:
Scan nodes. These provide a good source of primal aspects.(and some not so primal aspects if you are lucky. Sinister and tainted nodes seem to have a really good chance of having non-primal and usually rare aspects on them)
Place bookcases around your research table. These can provide a bonus research point for any aspect that will only be used if you have no other points. You can game this system by placing multiple research tables since the extra point is stored in the table(last time I checked)
Scan everything. In the beginning you will not have the knowledge to understand most things. After discovering aspects through scanning the right things or combining aspects. Try to discover aspects by scanning objects since you gain research points equal to double the item/block's value.
Make sure you scan everything you can. Items and blocks are scanable. Things you make are scanable. Many things from many mods are scanable. Learn to love that cliclliclic noise.

Check out this awesome thread by succubism if you want some more help. It contains some minor spoilers a little ways in but should have some good overview stuff in the first few posts.
Other suspiciously specific slightly spoilerific stuff:

I have the deconstruction table, now I also have to break a multitude of stacks of precious materials to maybe get a few aspects... this is painful, if you make any sort of mistake, a research will take hours to complete
the system is broken as it is. is there a way to cheat around the research system?

If you want to cheat you could go into the thaumcraft configs and enable the cheat sheet and give it to yourself through creative or nei for all the research

Protip: if you put bookcases around the table it will make more aspects sparkle making them infinite( if they are at 0 they will recharge to 1) and the more bookcases the better. Also scan nodes, use Succubism's cheat sheet, and scan ALL the things, including mod items( ores from different mods have the same values, like copper. Multile copper scans FTW)
Also, get research expertise,astery ASAP
And do TONS of exploring

You won't need that precious of materials. For example, you can break cobblestone for Solum, Netherrack for Ignis, Feathers for Aura, Plants for Aqua, and I'm sure there are other abundant resources out there for Ordo and Perditio.

Imo the real first step in make every single aspect in the game in your table with the primal aspects. Once you do that then you can easily run around scanning blocks and items until you have hundreds of each aspect. Nodes are also a good source of aspects. Farming silverwood trees will create new nodes that you can scan. But the real key is to make every aspect in the research table asap. Once you know them all collecting enough is super easy.
