I'm playing the Direwolf 20 1.6.4 pack. In the last Direwolf20 pack I didn't ever really do anything with Thaumcraft, but I've decided that this time around I'll try and learn a little about the mod because it does look interesting but I'm having some problems. Hopefully you guys can help.

I've done the research for the Infernal Furnace. I've set up the multi-block structure as suggested in the book but when I right click it with the wand nothing happens. The book says I need 50 terra and 50 ignis and I have both of those in my wand. The layout I'm using is:

NB = Nether Brick
O = Obsidian
L = Lava
A = Air

Bottom:
NB O NB
O O O
NB O NB

Middle:
NB IB NB
O L O
NB O NB

Top:
NB O NB
O A O
NB O NB

The second thing I was wondering about is I found a node behind my house. I can't get close enough to the node to research it because it throws me in the air and kills me everytime. It's also sucking the local environment up into it. I can't tell if it's expanding or not but if it is I need to know a way to stop it. I really just want to get rid of it... it's a little hazardous. Anyone know how to stop it or get rid of it? I've tried breaking it with my wand but with it throwing me in the air I can't stay next to it long enough to break it.

Thanks!,

Make sure you're clicking the iron bars with the wand.

Second, that's a hungry node, I'd recommend to GTFO. I don't know of any way to fix it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if the hungry node will expand? My base is about 75 blocks away should I relocate before I continue building?

Hungry nodes have a fixed size they will grow to, which is much smaller than 75 blocks (I want to say 16 block radius?). So your base will be safe as long as you don't get too close. And you'll know when you're too close. ;)

The radius for the node is probably 12 in a square shape. That's how it's been for roughly all the blocks in Thaumcraft.

I know if you drain a node completely of its vis it will sometimes destroy the node, I would assume that applies to hungry nodes as well, how you'd go about getting close enough to drain it I'm not sure.

I tested that. It doesn't "destroy" it as making it prone. Then you can break it.

Any tips on getting close enough to do so without being eaten? I know creative flight can keep you from getting drawn in by hungry nodes and portal guns fired at the moon, but that wouldn't be practical on a multi-player server for obvious reasons, or for people that just don't like cheating.

Wand Core of Excavation might work, as would AM2 Projectile Digs (since you can, you know, just destroy it). I haven't tested either though since I've never seen one.

I've never seen one either, but if it's not that fast in sucking up the environment, you might want to build a roof so you can get close without being thrown.

They don't seem to be terribly common, thankfully, I've seen two so far, the first was right next to a village which I was heading towards to investigate because I had never seen a village spawn with a building that looked like it took a creeper blast and got sucked in because I didn't know it was there until it was too late, the second time I got a really bad seed where a hungry node was directly above the spawn point, so needless to say that world was rather unplayable.
