This has been clarified. I posted that 2 days after it was announced, so I hadn't heard anything about it yet.
As far as Morph is concerned, based upon observations via DW20's videos, you do not gain anything other than size changes alongside the appearance. If you morph into a bat, you still can't fly.

Could be that the books are classed as entities when dropped (especially dropped when travelling to the age), and can be damaged by water and attacks. It's done to get around the 5 minute despawn (you don't want to explore an age, only to find that you can't get back to it because you spent too long there). I'd guess that soaryn killed a mystcraft book.

iChun actually said on his blog that he's working on that kind of stuff. I don't know when, but it COULD happen.
Well morph is currently a beta mod abilities are to be added later on so hey maybe soon he has the ability tracker currently in no abilities yet but soon probably
