TC4.1 research may be easier than TC3 in your opinion (I don't agree btw), but TC3's best content was the Axe of the Stream and Wand of Equal Trade. I mean, that was as powerful as it got, which is kinda sad looking back on it. TC4.1 (+TT and other addons) is really when the mod started being respectable in terms of power, partially because it didn't heavily drain your resources/time to get sub-par equipment (let's face it: even now, TC4 stuff and magic items in general are less powerful than equally expensive items from tech mods, and KAMI is only as good as it is because no tech mod outside GT dares make anything that absurdly expensive). Also, individual nodes are a lot less powerful in TC4 than in TC3. So, it was more of an issue of TC3 being not easy enough for what it gave.

Btw, believe me: the second you think about touching KAMI, you will need a lot of nodes. A lot.

I find your lack of vis disturbing:

I have a shortlist of another dozen nodes i've bookmarked for collection (you can see a few of the BMs in that screenie) i'm adding as I go.

Fear my wand and all the innuendo contained within...

Node mechanics are drastically different between the two versions. The mod changed a lot between versions and any ease with the new research is heavily dependent on familiarity gained from TC3 or cheat guides.

Actually, the new research system is the most intuitive thing ever.
OK you might have to IRL discover a couple of aspects, pen and paper :p

I played doodle god and doodle devil to completion, I am therefore old and sad and the new research system made sense to me.

Cheat guides are for proles :)

In terms of automation of alumentum, I'm assuming you're talking about TC4 right?

Blaze rod grinder + cobble is all you need for that. Going to have a lot of left over rock essence though.

wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.

Well, this Unleashed world is becoming old, quick. I kinda owned the shit out of it with my usual efficiency. I might force myself to TC, but not having enough research materials might piss me off, and I'll go back to quarries/laser drills so I can dump a billion w/e into research.

12 boilers... 400 mfr tree farm slots... 4 laser drill energy sink... I can kinda do w/e, and it's gotten real boring. AS sounds fun, but with BC pipes, how do you diamond pipe with itemducts?

As someone who never played those games, I found the old research boring and a chore

So my base now has several wisps outside and a WITCH.

I can't help but wonder if me concentrating all the magical potential of the immediate area has something to do with this...

I had an ME system filled with just about everything I needed. Though, this was my first time ever doing anything TC related, and yes, it only took me a few hours.
There are 350 research aspects, i.e. 3 aspects for this research, 5 for that, etc. If I recall correctly it takes about 30 clicks to fix each aspect (some less, some a lot more, some seemed to take for ever) so even if you can keep up an average click rate of 1 per second including time out to identify and fetch the next item then thats a minimum of 3 hours of clicking. I dont believe that anyone could keep that up. Even if it took 20 seconds per aspect, 2 hours of flat-out nonstop clickfest would not be fun. I could believe that a dedicated speed-run with a detailed item-by-item plan laid out might make it in a couple of hours. If that's what you did then congratulations but I assumed it was just a regular playthrough.

In 1.7 they are extremely common

But Monster is a 1.6.4 pack. I hate to think how mental it's going to be in the new version.

Was Zombie ZOMFGSWARMing 1.6 or 1.7? My drunken confirmation bias seems to see more multiple zombie waves in Monster than Unleashed.

PSH. As if Give me a harness, a goggle helmet, thaumiam pants, and boots of the traveler/ boots of the meteor any day. I'll outclass a Q suit/ or mps suit any day of the week. Mix in some ars magica spells and some wands and you have little hope to face the power of a wizard. Now so more than ever with the changes of runic being applicable to all thaumcraft armors, along side the baubles.

And let's not forget the minigun bow bone with armor piercing arrows... laaaaaaaaawl.

Thaumcraft is easier, but I feel it's easier due to how free form it is in terms of the trees. Being able to start in certain parts of thaumcraft at your choosing was probably one of the largest factors.

As for the items in tc3 they were on the same level as they were now in terms of effect, but the way to obtain them was far past reasonable. By the time you had the stuff to research you'd probably be suited up in endgame game from another mod.
