Thaumcraft 4.1 research

Hoping someone can help me out here, before I tear out what little remains of my hair.

I've tried reading guides and watching youtube videos, but everything seems different from what I'm using.

I've got my book and learned all the aspects, been researching new things just by clicking on the items in the book, not needed a scribe tools or paper in my inv.
My current problem is that I need a silverwood wand. But I can't click on it, it's completely greyed out

How do I advance from here?

If i remember right, researching infusion triggers it.

Yeah I reached the same point in thaumaturgy and moved on to the next section. Something I researched in there opened up the new wands.

Artifice i think, but i think you need Alchemy's essentia distillation before you can see Infusion.

I've not tested it, but do you have Advanced Node Tapping and Node Preserver on the Basic Information tab?

You probably need to scan something or other in the environment for it to show up. a lot of the research tree is based on getting ideas from scanning world objects.

Nope. I have the recharge pedestal unlocked, and haven't even touched node in a jar yet.

I'm having a really hard time finding Aqua research points? Just not finding much to scan. I'm throwing sugar cane into the Deconstruction Table, but I'm not having much luck.

You need quite a few of the wand foci research to unlock it

IIRC 100% of the time you get a aspect too; the catch as stated is zero ignis(a aspect I can't make do without unless I'm researching things using the "Victus Chain").
