I'm grateful for the Magic World pack as it was my introduction to Thermal Expansion, which I have really come to love. I wish, though, that I'd started my current world without Buildcraft, TE, etc...

I know I could simply not use the tech mod stuff but it's too late for that. Fwiw, I think the Magic World pack should only be things like Thaumcraft 3, Twilight Forest, Mystcraft, etc...

Not complaining, or anything, just my thoughts on things. I, personally, would enjoy TC3 more without that other stuff.

Personally (and this is just my opinion) I disagree at least for the moment there is not enough in TC3 to keep me entertained for long periods of time without doing something else (I have a very short attention span) and having as many mods crammed into my world as possible allows me to kinda jump between things keeping me preoccupied maybe once TC3 is finished and has more content then it may be enough as it has a lot more stuff to come yet.

Well I just started exploring the Twilight Forest mod last night and, on the surface at least, there seems to be a lot to do there. I haven't delved into TC3 enough (because I am using the BC compatible mods so much) to know if I agree with you, or not.

Well, do it yourself. Remove BC, TE and every other tech mod, and add in Ars Magica and the Runic Dust mod. Both are great magic mods and would fit it perfectly.

Yeah, I'm going to. I really need to try Ars Magica.

Thaumcraft 2 was easily my favorite mod and I guess I am just trying to figure out why Thaumcraft 3 is not (remotely) at that level for me yet.

I've only been playing Minecraft since around October and had never gotten very heavy into any of the tech mods until I started getting into Railcraft and TE with the Magic World pack.

The problem with TC3 (currently) is the fact that it's nowhere near completion. Azanor has A LOT more things he wants to add. Have patience young padawan. You will be greatly rewarded.

I do agree the magic pack is weak in the magic sense. Ars Magica, Runic dusts, Better Dungeons, Inficraft, and a long list could fill in the empty space.

Fwiw, I watched part 1 of dw20's Ars Magica mod spotlight at lunch today and it looks really cool. I'll check out the others mentioned.

Thaumcraft is freaking brilliant, and beautifully done. Can't wait to see what's in store.

I was thinking the exact same thing Dante, that I might be better off with just ThaumCraft, EE3 and the couple others magical mods, in fact I was this close to just add TC3 in a MultiMC instance and use that. But coming to think of it, I don't really mind the non-magical mods, I'm just setting up a small Thermal Expansion powerplant (I LOVE TE) to double my ores and that's it actually.

I'm going full wizard next, building my ravine base and probably a tower near silverwood trees for my wizardry stuff. Regarding Ars Magica, I was kind of skeptical at first but I wouldn't mind it really, spells and stuff would come handy when fighting bosses...

Until Thaumcraft was updated to 3 that's what I did, but with IC2 rather than Thermal Expansion. I would have one little room with a macerator, extractor, electric furnace and Compressor (I like the look of nether brick...) and a few solar panels with a batbox. That would double my ores and I never used any tech mods beyond that.

I added Ars Magica and Redpower (just for the gem tools, canvas bags, sickle, athame, marble and basalt) to the Magic World pack and disabled all of the techy stuff. I'm off the next two days and will give it a good run out.

I was quite surprised when I found out the magic pack had quite some techy mods in there, while some other magic mods were not there...
I still hope the magic pack becomes a real magic pack, but ofcourse it can be the case that not all magic mods are enough bugfree yet for the pack, or that they have permissions for it.

on TC3, I have the same opinion of it as TC2. it's an amazing mod, where you just keep getting amazed over and over, but for me both TC2 and TC3 are more of a standalone mod. because most of the things that can be done in TC2/3, can also be done with the other mods, and maybe even better. I really want to have to use TC3 in the FTB pack to get started on it, right now I still haveno TC-room made for all the TC goodies just because I don't really see an use for it yet

I think TC3 has some potential, seems amazing. Way better than putting a quarry to bring you cobblestone and fill your tanks with the good stuff in tc2

I kind of agree, on my let's play I am doing two cities, one with all the magical stuff and one with all the tech stuff, and they don't get to share resources. It makes for a lot more varied and interesting experience imho.

Just because other mods can do things better, you don't have to use those other mods 100% of the time.

I really enjoy TC3 but I also really enjoy RP. I use RP a lot to do things but there are some places I use TC golems to do what RP can do better.
I don't currently have a TC furnace set up but once I start working on my permanent base, instead of the testing mystcraft world i am in, I will have one set up for jobs like smelting glass or smoothstone. Sure it would be faster to use a powered furnace but so what.

There is no reason not to use things from all the mods.
I have never understood the mentality that some people have where they will only ever use 1 way of doing anything when there are other ways to do it.

That's kinda bizarre, imho. I don't have one desktop computer for Minecraft, another one for Guild Wars 2, another one for Facebook, another one for...

Anyway, I've just set a rule for myself that I am not using any Redpower machines in my magic game.

And I have 2 working desktops, 2 laptops and 5 monitors all on my computer desk. While I don't play different games on each one, 1 is for downloading only. One if for web surfing, only when I am using both monitors on my gaming pc. One is for media storage and access only.

Do you still have a cobblestone furnace in your main base that you use regularly once you have electric, powered, etc furnaces set up?

Yes.
Sometimes I just want to cook 1 or 2 things so I throw them in with a couple of planks.

I just like doing things the most efficient way there is, and don't see a point in doing it a way I know is less efficient.

I can see the attraction in keeping to a coherent 'theme', though - thus the Magic World pack. Of course, if I remember correctly the Magic World has Thermal Expansion, so that might not be quite as 'pure' as you're looking for. The entire pulverizer-induction line makes the TC furnace obsolete, which is kinda sad. (Double your ores, without any flux whatsoever!)

On a side note, does anybody else feel like Factorization is somewhat more 'magical' than TE?
